The Perfect Wired Xbox Controller
I bought this controller over a year ago, and it has worked flawlessly ever since. I specifically wanted a wired controller with a narrower design and symmetrical joysticks because, as someone with smaller hands, I struggled to feel comfortable using the bulky Xbox controller that came with my Series S. I previously used a PS4 controller, which felt like the perfect size for me, so when I saw how similar this one looked—especially at such an affordable price—I decided to give it a try. I loved it from the very first time I used it. To be honest, I even bought a second controller because I assumed this one wouldn’t hold up well for competitive, high-mobility shooters like Call of Duty: Warzone. Surprisingly, it has performed incredibly well and has given me virtually no issues at all. After over a year of use, there’s only a tiny bit of stick drift, but it’s so minor that I barely notice it while gaming, and honestly, it’s completely acceptable considering how much I’ve used it. One feature I especially love is the microphone button. Being able to instantly mute or unmute myself in-game is extremely convenient for voice chat sessions. I would absolutely recommend this controller to anyone looking for a comfortable and affordable alternative. It’s definitely worth the money.

Best wired controller by FAR.
If I could give this 6 stars I would. This is quite possibly the best controller I’ve owned in terms of performance. The only ways I could imagine would improve it would be visually (colors, wraps, etc) and Bluetooth/wireless that is compatible with Xbox. The triggers are extremely sensitive making them great for both racing and shooting games. The re-map-able paddles on the bottom are easy to change on the fly (hold both the button you want to activate as well as the paddle that should activate that button, then push the small star button and the paddle is remapped instantly). The ergonomics are great as well. The controller is not too big but also not too small. Perhaps the only real negative thing is that I have found myself accidentally hitting the paddle button because they are slightly sensitive as well. That has more to do with my hand positioning I believe, but it would be nice to have a paddle lock to keep them off when you’re not using them. Ten out of ten, would recommend this controller to any PC or Xbox gamer.

Amazing. Feels like a DualShock 4 for Xbox.
I never loved the controller that came with my Xbox Series X. I found my fingers and hand piling or gripping toward the top of the controller. I had purchased the Xbox plug and play rechargeable battery kit and after 1.5 years, it had difficulty retaining a charge. The headphone jack gave out and had to send it in for repair. The Series X controller has always been too clacky and loud (especially the rounded d-pad). After searching for a new controller, I landed on the 8BitDo Pro 2 Wired Controller. While it seems aimed at retro games, I've had an amazing experience playing Cyberpunk 2077, Solar Ash and some indie games with it and it's perfect for modern games - especially if you have ever used a PlayStation DS4 and miss that shape. It's wired (and it an ample, long wire) so I never have to worry about recharging batteries or anything. The face buttons and d-pad are excellent and have a less-resistant press than the Series X controller. The triggers are comfortable as well. I highly recommend downloading the free 8bitdo app so you can customize trigger settings, vibration intensity (and the 2 vibration zones), or if you want to customize any buttons. I don't plan to use the customizable assign/turbo buttons on the back and I do feel myself pressing them randomly as I play. Since they aren't mapped to anything, it doesn't interfere with gameplay but I do kind of wish they made a version without these. That's nitpicking at this point as this is a solid, affordable, comfortable and high quality controller. I always play with headphones and the headphone jack seems great so far. I've had zero issues with this controller and think it's an amazing value.

A must for 2D games
I own a lot of different Xbox controllers, from the standard pack in controllers and cheap wired options from PowerA, to the elite series 1+2, the full lineup of all 4 Razer wolverine controllers and even the Thrustmaster Eswap X. That is not a flex by any means, admitting you have a problem is the first step to getting help. And help myself I did to this new controller offering. I think myself highly if not overly qualified to anonymously review this new $45 pro controller offering from 8bitdo. What good? -Best d-pad you'll find on an Xbox controller without compromising on features or ergonomics, Microsoft will invest millions into a controller design and research but can't make a good d-pad. Finally, 2D games have a reason to exist on the Xbox platform. -Remap any button to literally any button, this is a great quality of life change for the boomers out there, no longer shall you go from Xbox to Nintendo and back where everything now feels backwards. -On the fly headset volume levels adjustment through a multifunction button combination, keeps it clean and free of unecessary volume up and down, microphone up and down, or just ugly slider knobs that PowerA for some reason decided looked good enough to slap on their new controllers. -Buttons are good and responsive, I would love the elite series 2 controller more if the face buttons didn't suck, so when your buttons respond better than the $180 controller you doing good in my eyes. Not so good? -Analog stick adjustment isn't as comprehensive as one would probably want, and likely useless to most. It does offer some options like swapping stick inputs or mapping the left stick as a d-pad, where it falls short is the only thing you can adjust about the sticks is the center deadzone size. I would have loved to see acceleration curve/sensitivity adjustments. -LT and RT are not instant actuation triggers, what this means is you need to press the trigger down about 10% of its full actuation before it will even register the smallest value of a trigger press. Not ideal at all for FPS games. -The extra back buttons are (for me at least) part of your grip itself, making them quite easy to accidently press. This is avoidable if you don't map them to anything, but I like my extra buttons. All in all, it's a solid 4/5 for me as that d-pad really makes playing classic game ports and compilations all the more enjoyable. While flawed, the very budget friendly $45 pricetag makes this a solid offering if you don't view it as the only controller you'll ever use and bin the controller that came with your console.

Great controller but...
These are great high quality controllers with super long sturdy wires, well made and very comfortable to hold for extended times, i always buy them to play pc games; not exactly super demanding ones but they still do just fine. The only downside to them is the analog sticks, they start drifting after a few months of use, the problem solely stims from pressing them which is unavoidable, sometimes we just have to press them to make some game functions work. The main buttons start out a little stiff which is understandable but by the time you break them in and they start to feel smooth it's time for the analog sticks to start breaking and time to buy another controller, if this poses a problem for you then keep looking for another controller, for me this is the only wired controller I'm comfortable using with pc games as i really don't like where the d-pad is in most xbox controllers and I'm not a fan of how big or how expensive the ps5 controllers are. This controller is a wonderful balance between ps and xbox controllers and works great! just a little bit of improvement on the analog sticks and it will be the perfect controller for all your gaming needs. So far i have 3 of them and 2 wireless ones for my laptop and switch! Love them!

I suspected the XBOX branding might indicate this was crap. I was right.
If you're hoping that this will be the same great controller that the non-XBOX Pro 2 Wired is, you're in for some disappointment; as was I. First of all, there is no way to plug this controller in as Direct Input (as opposed to X-Input). Normally a button is held down while plugging in a controller to achieve this. Not an option with this controller. It can however be placed in 'Switch-mode' by holding down the Y button while being plugged in. At least, I think that's what it's doing. So if it has a 'Switch-mode', why not let us hold a different button for Direct Input? There is also no convenient way to set a button to turbo. They claim this can be done in their software, but that's a hassle, and their software is crap anyway. Having found their software to useless every other time I tried using it, I didn't even bother to check. I mean, it doesn't even allow us to bind a keyboard key to a button. If all that weren't enough, there's currently no way to update the controller's firmware, which could've been used to address the above concerns, should 8bitDo wish to. Neither of the two applications made available by 8bitDo can even detect that the controller is connected, let alone update it. As far as I can tell, it does function as an XBOX controller should, in the most superficial sense. Though I believe that even an official XBOX controller can be plugged in to a PC as a Direct Input controller (again, as opposed to X-Input). The controller has 8bitDo's usual high-quality feel to it, but those missing features are just inexcusable. If all you plan to use this controller for is XBOX stuff, then it's probably fine. Though do keep in mind that 8bitDo's usual method of toggling a button to turbo-mode is missing from this controller. I'll be keeping it only to de-solder the hall effect sticks and mod them into the vastly superior (normal) Pro 2 Wired Controller. As, inexplicably, that model is the only 'stick-ed' controller that 8bitDo DOESN'T offer with the option of hall effect sensors.

Wow!
This controller is far better than my Playstation or Xbox controllers. The cord is much longer compared to the Playstation or Xbox cord, so I can play with it on my PC without having to worry about accidentally yanking on the cord. The layout is the same symmetrical layout as the Playstation controller, which in my opinion is a better layout than the Xbox layout. The Hall Effect joysticks are very smooth and precise, so I can use it with Drone Simulators like Uncrashed whereas as with the Playstation or Xbox joysticks were very clumsy and not very playable. Finally, this controller works on MX Linux and Steam with no issues -- it was just instant plug-and-play! UPDATE: Make sure you use an actual USB3 designated port or it will not boot up with the computer.

Mostly good, but evidently susceptible to breaking easily?
I mostly have good things to say about the controller, but there are also a few problems. I've had the 8bitdo Pro 2 controller for nearly 6 months, and I use it roughly every other day for regular gaming and during livestreams, so it gets about 16-20 hours of use per week. It's a great design, closely resembling the PS4's Dualshock controller design rather than the poor design Microsoft chose for the Xbox controllers. For anybody that hasn't had the experience using both, it's hard to explain without writing at least a couple hundred words, but it's abundantly obvious that Microsoft put the left stick in the wrong place. Sony had it right to begin with, and MS should have copied the layout. But I digress.... The buttons, triggers, and sticks feel pretty great, and there's a nice feedback to each. The hall effect sticks, in particular, have a nice responsiveness, and are immediately better than the low-budget sticks used in the standard series S/X controllers. The D-pad does feel a bit too mushy for my taste, but that's probably the only thing I'd like to see tightened up. If I'm nitpicking, the triggers are also a bit squeaky, but that's a minor issue. There are also back paddles, and for PC users that opens up the potential to have two additional buttons. However, for console players, these buttons can only be mapped to match two existing buttons on the controller, so they're not terrible useful unless they can specifically be used to clone some other action that would otherwise be impossible because your thumbs/fingers would have to be in two places at once. This is a limitation of the Xbox, so 8bitdo can't be blamed for this. I also have a minor complaint about the audio jack. Unfortunately, it's not isolated against ground loops, so microphones can cause a bunch of noise if you don't use your own ground loop isolator. This is also a common issue for Xbox controllers, and a well-documented problem, so it's not surprising 8bitdo didn't solve it here either, but it would have been nice if it had. Finally, I just ran into my first major problem with the controller, prompting me to finally post this review (which I've been holding onto a bit too long). The left trigger cap snapped off while I was gaming. I tend to treat my things pretty gently; I don't throw the controller around, smash it against things, or otherwise mistreat it, so it's weird that this happened. The cap appears to be mostly cosmetic, so the trigger is technically still useful without it, but it feels awkward. I suspect this can be fixed easily enough with some kind of plastic glue, but the symbols and documentation don't give any indication of what type of plastic was used to manufacture the controller, so I don't know which glue to use. I'm about to reach out to support to find out, but I'm not particularly happy that the design was as fragile as it was.

Good if you like ps style layout and don’t mind bad rumble.
I like the ergonomics of this controller as well as the sticks and the buttons. My main point of criticism is the vibration which is very unsubtle and I usually turn it off in games. Also de d-pad is not very good and it squeaks, but I don’t use it much so it’s not a big issue for me.

my personal favorite Xbox controller
this controller (pro 2) is miles better than the new 8bitdo ultimate Xbox controller and other 3rd party and 1st party controllers in many ways. its easy on my hands and doesn't hurt them, it has a great snes dpad and left and right bumpers. and i highly recommend. thanks/kudos 8bitdo. please make a new iteration of this controller or some new colors in the future.
