Cooling Modcase for ROG Ally, Back Plate Accessories, Heat Management Shell Case Compatible with ROG Ally, Easy Installation Cover with Foldable Kickstand, and Custom Nameplate (Translucent)

I was on the fence about this Modcase for ROG Ally. Looking at reviews, it was a no brainier if you are using it plugged in, or if you are looking for the lowest temps at all times. Installation was simple enough. They include silicone post extenders for the back button. I ended up using the 0.4mm extensions. My back buttons are super clicky now. The translucent version (what I purchased) looks really nice and I don't think you could go wrong with any color as my temps have dropped 2-5 degrees Celsius when playing plugged in. I would recommend the Modcase upgrade if you are looking for the best temperatures possible on your ROG Ally. Looks slick, feels just as good as factory all while keeping your system cooler than factory. Huge shout out to HandhelpDIY for an awesome upgrade that I can recommend!

**This is an honest review** I bought this back piece mainly because the back piece on the factory case was broken in many places. (The plastic on the ROG ASUS ally is surprisingly weak). I’m so happy I was able to find this on Amazon because it was super easy to install especially with the video provided and my ally is like-new! Without this I wouldn’t had to order a whole new ally. To my positive delight this case has really helped bring the heat down. It actually does what it says it does! Great design, seems high quality, and it comes with any parts you might need. I especially liked the fact that it came with little silicone parts at multiple sizes so that you can make the back buttons work better. Really happy with this purchase and I definitely think it’s worth it.

Great cooling and easy to transfer on!

I'm so glad I came across this back plate while searching on Amazon. It barely had any reviews and looked new but I decided to take a chance and so happy I did! I'm convinced is by far the BEST one you can get. Whoever engineered this 1. knows what they're doing 2. Cares a lot. Why? Here's a few of the reasons: the stand comes with a raised-rubber padding, so the metal doesn't scratch the surface of whatever you decide to lay the Ally down on (on its back, not standing up) - it has a stand (very strong one) - it fits perfectly - added cooling + thermal pad (if you want to use it) - beautiful transparent design - comes with extra padding for trigger internals (I used 4mm, it actually improved the tactile feedback & feel). Literally the only thing I have noticed that I don't like (the "HandheldDIY badge") they figured out a way for you to customize somehow, or remove it if you'd like. The price is competitive with the similar JSAUX one, except is much better & comes with a good stand (one of the main reasons I bought it), and I don't like lights anyway, so that made it an ever better deal for me. I just have to say congrats to whoever engineered this & put the package together with everything you need - you deserve 5/5 stars

First off, SUPER FAST on shipping! Ordered and received within 10 hours. Insane. Second, installing it was a BREEZE. Thanks to including legitimately everything you need in order to install this right in the box already, I was able to walk out the door for work and pick this off my porch and take it with me and install it while at my desk at work. I didn’t need anything else from home or anything. Everything you need to install this is included in the box, even a nice screwdriver and all replacement screws! The installation was super easy, I didn’t even need to read or look at any instructions. The thermal paste and metal plate for heat dissipation is a game changer. I have been playing Cyberpunk 2077 on my Ally all day while at work, and when I got home (cuz I couldn’t put my Ally down) WITHOUT going over 60 degrees Celsius! I have been WELL OVER 75 degrees before while playing this game!! I haven’t even mentioned the best part though, the kickstand! Of course, it holds up the Ally very well at a good viewing angle, but it doubles as a battery strap for a portable charger!! I’ve used my Anker 737 with it, and it holds it… but it IS a huge batter bank… so it has trouble staying in the strap a little (leaning too far left or right will cause it to sag a little… just make sure it’s centered) and I’ve literally been able to game for 2+ hours longer thanks to having it mounted to the back of my Ally now. This thing is probably the best purchase outside of a larger/faster SSD upgrade that you can buy for the Ally. Just get it already!! You won’t regret it!

This HandheldDIY Modcase is a superb choice if you are modding your Ally for aesthetics and functionality. It comes in stock styled OG white, a super cool retro style translucent purple, and a very nice DIY cyberpunk clear translucent. I went with the clear translucent to fully show off the inside of my device. The kit comes with everything you need to do the installation yourself and the process is straightforward and not hard to accomplish. You get the backplate, screwdriver, extra screws, thermal pad, silicone adapters for your back buttons, and the strap for attaching to the kickstand. There is a great installation video on the HandheldDIY Youtube channel to follow along or you can follow your favorite Techtubers video. It only took about 10 minutes to install the Modcase. Not only does the backplate look great, but it actually improves gaming on the Ally as well! It has an improved vented airflow design with increased intake and exhaust for better cooling and a nice heat spreader built into backplate with an included silicone thermal pad. This reduces the overall temperature of your handheld which leads to better performance, lower fan noise, improved battery life, and overall the Ally is cooler feeling in hand. The foldable kickstand on the back is very handy and is made of a nice aluminum. It can also be used with the included silicon straps to secure a power bank, USB dock or whatever you like to the back of your Ally, which is super convenient. You can also get a custom aluminum nameplate from HandheldDIY to personalize your Modcase even further or add your own stickers, skins or whatever to make it even more personal and unique. I believe this is the best modcase/backplate in the market for the ROG Ally. It is affordable, gives you everything you need in the box, installs easy, and most importantly looks amazing while actually giving tangible performance improvement. I can't recommend the HandheldDIY Modcase enough, and I'll probably be adding the purple to my cart as well so I can switch looks up on occasion. If you are on the fence about this Modcase vs the competitors I advise you to choose HandheldDIY. They really nailed it with the Modcase. Cheers and Happy Gaming!

So I mainly got this modcase because I was tired of cleaning the backplate of the original case and I didn't want to get a greasy skin. Purple is my favorite color, so this was a no-brainer. I absolutely love the clear purple. This paired with the purple LED rings and it's a perfect combination. As far as looks go, its great and if I was basing on this alone, it'd be 5 stars. This case also provides a kickstand and helps keep thermals low. The kickstand really only works on flat surfaces due to the placement. (I'm mostly a couch gamer, so this was more of a hindrance to me than anything. In the end I removed the stand). For the cooling portion, it actually does do a great job and if you are looking to keep your ROG cool, you could go for this option. The main portion that cools the device is the huge thermal cooling pad it includes. The only problem, for me, is the slight weight it adds. It's just enough weight to make the edges of the ROG Ally a little to uncomfortable after longer play-sessions. I've tried this backplate without the thermal pad and lost the thermal gains but the weight was more suitable. I might end up putting the thermal pad back in and see if I get use to the feel. Either way I am satisfied with this backplate.

I wanted one for so long and I was worried it wouldnt be good because of some complaints I saw online. The fit is spot on and it clipped into place perfectly. There were complaints with the back buttons and I did notice one of them was not as clicku as the other side. They included a little bag with "+" spacers meant just to solve that so no complaints here. Another complaint I saw was the slide on straps that hold a power bank were too tight to put on or off easily. Mine went on and off smoothly so perhaps its a quality control issue or user error. The straps have a silver oval bump that will engage into a hole in the kickstand when it is in place and i did have to press it in to be able to slide it out. I wonder if people were just overlooking that and forcing it. Another complaint was that the thick heatpad or whatever that eraser thing is was too thick to actually cool it the advertised 10 degrees. I personally cannot attest to this as I did not test it before and after. All I can say is that ive had no noticeable performance difference and from the research ive done online it seems that the ally isnt really thermal throttled as much as it isade out to be. Long story short the modcase looks cool, installed easily, adds a kickstand/strap and doesnt noticably affect performance in a negative way.

A little pricey but really helped with keeping my ROG Ally cooler by at least 5 degrees. Well thought out. Good build, Nice quality. Looks great on my Ally. My only gripe is the video the company has on YT, not very helpful. I want to see how to take off the original back cover not how to screw on the new one. This was solved by watching other YT videos.

Otima case para o hog ally, chegou antes do previsto, instalação facil sem problemas. Quanto a questão da temperatura no modo 30w está batendo 90 graus, quando é colocado em outro modo a temperatura se mantem ok.

Excelente carcasa. Hubo una mejora notable en temperaturas, Antes a 43 watts (Boost temporal de 2minutos) La ROG Ally alcanzaba los 96*C!! Ahora con la carcasa de HandheldDIY no pasa de los 90*C. Jugando normalmente a 30watts (Conectado a la pared) vi una mejora de entre 8 y 10*C de reducción en temperaturas! La instalación fue muy fácil, aunque el botón trasero derecho no funciono a la primera pues no alcanzaba a hacer click, El kit contiene unos espaciadores para estos botones de diferentes medidas para compensar, Use uno de 0.3mm y quedo perfecto! Incluye muchos de estos espaciadores de diferentes tamaños para que la instalación quede perfecta. Recomiendo ampliamente este mod para tu ROG Ally!! Nota aparte: Me hubiera gustado que fuera el color morado transparente pero esta agotados en todos lados.

I was on the fence due to the price which is quite high for a backplate. However - it does genuinely seem to help, it the temperatures peak it comes down much quicker than before the case swap. The swap is quite easy, the triggers can be a little fiddly but on the whole it's really straightforward. I will eventually upgrade the SSD and battery but I felt ensuring the electronics don't overheat would be the best priority.
