I don’t leave a lot of reviews, but Abreva honestly deserves 5 stars. If you deal with cold sores, you know how frustrating and uncomfortable they can be—and this stuff works. The key is applying it as soon as you feel that first tingle. Don’t wait for the blister to appear. I caught mine early and it barely even surfaced. It healed in just a couple of days, and it never got painful or crusty like they usually do. The pump is super convenient—more sanitary than the little tubes, and easy to toss in a bag or pocket. A few tips to get the best results: Apply at the very first sign (tingle, itch, tightness)—it makes a huge difference. Use a clean finger or cotton swab to apply—don’t double dip! Reapply throughout the day, even if it seems like it’s gone. Consistency helps it heal faster. It’s pricey for the size, but you really only need a tiny amount each time. Cold sores are never fun, but this makes them way more manageable. I keep one of these on hand at all times now—totally worth the investment. Notes: Make sure it is made in Germany, not India. There are many fake ones out there. Beware: Do NOT buy many at once. These have short expiration dates.

Clearly, I’ve never used this properly on my cold sores. I’ve tried it numerous times in the past but only applied it to cold sores that had already gotten dry and started cracking. I get them in the same spot on the corner of my mouth, and they HURT. As soon as I felt that little “twinge” of discomfort, like I felt one coming on, I started using Abreva. I hate that so much comes out in one pump, because I really only need about 1/4 of that amount. But, I’ve put it on 5 times a day for 2 days and the cold sore never developed into a bigger sore! It’s a small red area but not nearly as bad as they usually get. This cream also seems to help numb the area a bit, and relieve pain. I highly recommend using this at the first sign of a cold sore, and use it as directed (5 times a day). Thanks for reading l! I hope this was helpful. 😉

I don't write many reviews, but feel compelled because maybe I can help some people by sharing what has nearly cured me. I'm someone who used to get frequent cold sore outbreaks, approximately 6 times a year, sometimes more. Occasionally I'd just get over a bad outbreak only to have another one a couple weeks later! That was so embarrassing! I have used Abreva on and off since it came on the market years ago. It works well if you catch the cold sore early on at the first sign. That being said, there is always an occasional cold sore that Abreva will have no effect whatsoever. I've found a better way to prevent outbreaks is by keeping your lips and body healthy. By doing this you will prevent cold sores, and if needed, the medicine is much more effective when your skin isn't all chapped because it will allow the medicine to penetrate better and your own immune system will be able to fight the virus better. Keep a good lip balm with you. Anything that damages your lips leaves you vulnerable to an outbreak. This is the best first defense. I keep some with me always and will switch to an spf balm in the warm months when I'm getting a lot of sun exposure. It's surprising how far this will go in preventing outbreaks. Secondly, I strongly recommend l-lysine. It's an essential amino acid that you can purchase on Amazon for a low price. This is great for skin health and has helped me and many cold sore sufferers tremendously! I don't take them daily, but should my lips get a bit chapped or I have a cold, I will take them for a couple days. I've found in the rare cases theses don't work, any cold sore I get barely noticeable and Abreva will usually shrink them without any sore surfacing. These things have helped me greatly. I hope this review helps you.
