Great for troubled scalps
This shampoo is equivalent to Nutragena T-gel shampoo. I have scalp and ear psoriasis and this shampoo keeps it controlled. I find the Amazon brand just as effective as T-gel with a better price. This is a Coal tar shampoo and does have an odor it. I use a pleasantly scented conditioner and I donโt notice the tar aroma on my hair. If you have scalp issues like psoriasis or eczema I highly recommend this shampoo.

Is working as described on scalp psoriasis, smell is fine, focus on the scalp with it, it works
So far so good with this cold tar anti-dander shampoo. I recently developed a small patch of psoriasis on the top corner of my head and it came out of nowhere. Coal tar seemed to be the recommended treatment for sudden psoriasis. I must say after using it just a couple of washes I did put it directly on that part of my scalp and then let it sit there for a little bit so the active ingredient could work into the scalp. After just a couple of washes all the flakes and scales were gone. I do have to keep up with it. I'm still using it, not every shampoo but maybe once a week, and that seems to have everything under control. Also I don't think that the smell is that bad. I know that some people think that it's really strong. I really don't find it to be bothersome. I mean it's really not bad at all and I don't smell it after I rinse it out either way. It doesn't stay in the hair so I would definitely recommend it. This is a really good amount for a fair price compared to pretty much anything else out there so since it works I see no reason not to grab this one.

Amazing
Yes it smells bad, but it WORKS. After using this only one time, I have had no flakes and no itchy dry scalp for the entire week. I donโt think iโll be needing to use it very often since it works so well, so iโm sure the bottle will last me a long time. Best dandruff shampoo i have ever used.

I wish they had a stronger version.
I have had great results with MG217 3% coal tar shampoo but it's been out of stock for a while. About a month ago, I decided to try this and have had mixed results. I really wanted to like the Amazon Basics shampoo as it is substantially cheaper than other brands. I used this 3-4 times per week for the last month and it works pretty well. However, it doesn't completely get rid of my flakes. I expect if I used it daily, it might do the trick but I think I need something stronger. The MG217 on the same schedule did eliminate my dandruff. The MG217 has a strong tar smell but I find the Amazon Basics doesn't. Some reviews have complained about the smell but it didn't bother me. The bottle size is too small. After a month, I'm half empty. MG217 is a very thin shampoo (think brown water). This Amazon shampoo is a thicker gel. Both lather ok but I much prefer the Amazon. Overall, I like it but I wish they had a 2% version.

This is amazing. No more itching.
This is amazing. No more itching after just one shampoo. It did not leave my hair dry like the T gel shampoo did. It is a third the price of T gel and works better. The smell truly lasts too which is good because I like the clean smell. This actually left my hair feeling softer than it was before. It was packaged so there was no leakage.

Amazing but stinks
Works amazingly for scalp psoriasis but be aware the smell is awful! I try to shower at night and the smell fades by the next day.

Permanent marker smell isn't all that bad, results good.
Did a very vigorous and generous lather first wash, and instantly noticed results after drying and wearing. Was actually able to shed a lot of stuck on dead skin, and scalp feels like it is breathing a lot better- will need to use scalp massager for full results once my broken up scalp heals and stops bleeding/oozing pus, but it is really a start after that first wash and I'm quite happy with the results. Currently fighting infections on my head, and this has been giving me a lot of relief. The smell people are referring to, to me, smells like permanent marker, and really is not bothersome to me. However, in other coal tar shampoo products, I have had issues with just not wanting that smell in my hair despite washing previously. I am not having that with this product, and appreciate that. Nobody in my house has complained about the smell, either.

A Lifesaver for Itchy, Flaky Scalps!
I've been battling a stubborn, flaky, and incredibly itchy scalp for years. I've tried countless shampoos, from drugstore brands to expensive salon products, and nothing seemed to provide lasting relief. I was starting to lose hope until I stumbled upon Amazon Basics Therapeutic Plus Coal Tar Shampoo. And let me tell you, this stuff is a game-changer! First off, let's address the elephant in the room: the smell. Yes, it has that distinct, medicinal coal tar scent. It's not the most pleasant fragrance, but it's not overpowering either. Honestly, after a few washes, you get used to it. The important thing is that it works, and for me, that's a small price to pay for a healthy scalp. From the very first wash, I noticed a significant difference. The intense itching subsided almost immediately, and the flaking was visibly reduced. After using it consistently for about two weeks (2-3 times a week), my scalp is finally calm and clear. The persistent flakes are gone, and the constant urge to scratch is a thing of the past. It feels like I have a brand new scalp! The shampoo lathers well, and a little goes a long way. It also leaves my hair feeling clean without stripping it of all its moisture. I have color-treated hair, and I haven't noticed any adverse effects on my color, which is a huge plus. In terms of value, you can't beat the price. It's a fraction of the cost of some of the other therapeutic shampoos on the market, and in my opinion, it works even better. If you're struggling with a stubborn, itchy, or flaky scalp, I highly recommend giving Amazon Basics Therapeutic Plus Coal Tar Shampoo a try. Don't let the name or the scent deter you. It's a powerful and effective solution that delivers on its promises. I'm so glad I found this product, and it's now a permanent fixture in my shower. Five stars!
