amazing!!
I own a container full of hand pruners that don't work all that well. I have weak hands from arthritis and being elderly, but I love to prune. These pruners are amazing and work well with weak hands (I am female), and they look to last a long time.. They even include little pad things to keep the blade oiled and clean. I gave them a workout yesterday and I was able to prune for over an hour. The amazing part is they made pruning fun rather than painful. Cut quickly and easily with branches up to a 1/2 inch. The rachet works smoothly and powerful. The really amazing part is my hands were not in pain at all afterward. Usually, I pay with sore, stiff hands for at least a day after doing pruning. for pruning that long. I would definitely recommend it.. I am fearful these will disappear from Amazon, so I am ordering a second pair today to put aside in case I lose the first pair. I am definitely a happy gardener again. Can't say enough good things. If you are hesitating over price, don't worry. I have several hand prunders that din't even last a season and were difficult for me to use. Last year I bought 2 different pairs of pruners and the combined prices far exceeded of the two far exceeded the price of these. Those other two are on their way to Salvation Army. The only drawback is they are a bit difficult to lock & unlock, but with use that seems to be getting to be less of an issue.to lock but the more I lock and unlock & get the hang of how the locking mechanism works, the easier it gets. Enjoy!!!

EXCEPTIONAL PRUNING SHEARS!
These are the absolute BEST pruning shears I have ever owned without a doubt. I have a large yard (3.3 acres) and I am working on clearing it. My yard is wooded, hardwoods, pines, etc. Also plenty of underbrush primarily invasive honeysuckle. These pruning shears are fabulous! They are ratcheting, which means they cut very large branches. If you have never owned a pair of ratcheting pruners you are in for a treat. They cut through branches I never would have been able to attempt with regular pruners - like butter! I am a 72 year woman with arthritis. These have been a blessing for me. They are an excellent value for the money.

A Good Quality Product
My wife and I have 'grounds' and we have roses and crape myrtle and what-not. We use an arsenal of tools to shape plants and to open them to the air. Over more than a decade, I have had to replace these items on a yearly basis, usually with items purchased from one 'big box store' or another. These days I do more shopping on Amazon than elsewhere for ease of delivery and for range of choice. ...So, I ordered these. What I got was a sturdy design with a 'big' blade (like on long-handled loppers) and a ratchet mechanism, which also allows the jaws to open wider. I had hoped that this design would offer a mechanical advantage over other similar units but that is not what 'ratchet' means. The ratchet mechanism allows you to leave the blade in the cut and returns things so that you can continue the cut as often as needed to complete it. A nifty touch is the snap-on; snap-off oiler pad which provides instant access to blade protecting lubrication. However, as the distributor points out, this pad is easy to lose and should be stored separately. (I should have believed him because, while I thought it snapped firmly in place...I lost mine. I have small hands for a man and so I have to use two hands if I want to open the jaws on this unit to their widest capacity. This is not a problem while trimming roses but it can become an issue if you don't happen to have full-sized loppers at hand. Based on my experience with a variety of high-end cutlery steel, I would say this blade is as good as any on offer for this type of tool and that it is better than some. My unit came with a usefully 'sharp' edge--clean cutting but not so fine as to bend out of line after an hour or so of regular use. Because the jaws open so widely, I can use my WorkSharp belt sharpening system to maintain the blade edge and that means something for users who have more than the occasional plant to trim. In my experience, Valspring Group offers exceptional (proactive) customer service. When the company thought I might have received and used the shears, they sent me an e-mail asking for feedback and offering any assistance I might need if I did develop issues. We put these things to vigorous use during a full season and it remains to be seen if these will last into next season or not. So far, they are comfortable to use and are offered at something less than 'heirloom' prices. (I don't know how my roses feel about 'Rosewood' handles anyway.)

I Think These Are A Winner!
Having some tendonitis or arthritis, I needed a way to clip fruit tree prunings to fit into our recycle bin. After clipping the smaller branches of a tree or two, my hand would hurt for a couple of weeks. My venerable Corona clippers have always been super and my sweetheart uses hers always. But I thought I would try something easier. Fiskars, with its two-handed branch loppers, are super! But their hand cutters, with their interesting twisty grip for leverage, wasn't enough (though a bit easier than my Coronas). So I tried this Valspring clipper. WOW! I have only tried some test branches, as the pruning season has passed, but here is my opinion. They are very, very good. A single cut, where the branch goes between the blades and gets sliced, is just like the others. However, if the branch resists cutting (like my somewhat weathered kindling branches I experimented with just now), then you can ease off on the handles then take a second pass. Easing off engages a gear-driven mechanism that works really well to easily slice through the wood. My sweetheart even tried them and commented how easy it was to cut through the branch. Time will tell how they work making the hundreds of cuts to clip the branches next season to fit into our recycle bins. If the wood is green and easily cut, these may be just like the Coronas. But knowing that when the branch resists, I can easily shift gears (so to speak) and slice through the branch like butter, is a good thing. My open question is whether or not my hand tendons will put up with the possibly multi-squeezes necessary to cut through the harder woods. My guess is that they will. Even with two passes, if the passes are easy, it is a no-sweat deal for my hands. For easy stuff, I can use them like my Coronas or maybe even just use these with single cuts. In any case, I whole-heartedly recommend these cutters to those folks, like me, who need some assistance with cutting as their hands age.

Okay but not great.
I expected better for the price and quantity of the 5 star ratings I saw. 1st and foremost, toss the majority of 5 those star ratings. Anyone who’s used shears before, or used these to any extent would not in their right mind give 5 stars for this product. As soon as I saw the packaging, I was disappointed. The shears were packaged in a typical Taiwanese plastic/cardboard package that did not convey any sense of quality. The label on the shear was crooked and not firmly affixed. There was a spare blade oiler in the package and now I know why. But you’re not reading this to see if the package was up to snuff, are you? Construction: The pivots are all rivets, there are no bolts and nuts holding it together but there is no noticeable looseness or wiggle of the cutting blade. The handle was able to accommodate my normal sized hand with a medium duty glove on. I see others had issues with gloves using this, I did not. Performance: The shears were razor sharp out of the package and initial cuts were effortless. The ratchet mechanism worked fine and there was no blade flex when trying to cut large branches at an awkward angle. I found the ratchet mechanism worked well and with each squeeze and release it indexed properly allowing quick cuts. There was never a time where this did not work. I was able to cut the smallest twig to about 1 inch saplings without any problems. As cutting progressed, i did have to exert slightly more effort, but the shears did not exhibit any major change in its ability. As others mentioned, the blade oiler that is stored in the handle disappeared along the way (thus the spare in the package) and locking the blade is difficult. They did the job today and hopefully they’ll continue to do the job in the future. But in the end, they’re just okay.

Sturdy shears
Sturdy, fine gardening tool.

Difficult to lock
Clippers cut extremely well. Bought because hand arthritis makes cutting difficult. I like the ratcheting feature. However, I am unable to lock the clippers, or unlock if someone else locks them for me. If I had tried them beforehand, I probably would not have purchased.

The only had pruners to buy
Terrific product for small branch pruning. The ratchet feature allows you to cut branches cleanly of up to 1 inch or more in diameter with ease. Much, much better than pruning shears without the ratchet feature. I have had mine for several years and it still works perfectly. Highly recommended.
