StarTech.com 2 Port ExpressCard 1394a FireWire Laptop Adapter Card - Dual Port ExpressCard 1394a Laptop FireWird Card (EC13942A2)

I first tried the newer StarTech version of this card with the Motorola chipset. That did not work. I sent it back and got this older legacy version and it works just fine. As I write this, I'm capturing video from my Sonny HVR -AIN using Vegas Pro 15. Thank God for that. This HP has a nasty reputation for not working well with expresscards.

Excellent product, just slide the card into the expansion port slot, wait a few minutes,and computer recognizes it just like USB ports. Keep in mind that the express cards are not designed to go with the laptop and being carrying around, when you're done, eject like a USB and push the card in, and it will come right out.

This card came with a 1394 4-pin to 1394a 6-pin cord. My PC did recognized the card fine, but did not recognize my Canon camcorder. I asked startech what the problem was, and they got back to me quickly that it was the cord! Seemed weird, but ok, I ordered a Canon-specific cord and voila! It worked great. My guess is that startech knows the cords they send with the card are bad, to have gotten it fixed so quickly. That's a disappointment, but their customer service was quick, excellent in clarity, and effective. And the canon cord was $8 including shipping. So expect to get a cord specific to your camcorder, and toss the one that comes with the card.

Did exactly as advertised. I needed to transfer video from a camcorder that has firewire as the transfer option. I used a Dell Latitude E6420 laptop running Windows 7 Pro 32bit. When I installed the device Windows was able to find the driver that worked. I also purchased the StarTech ExpressCard 34mm to 54mm adapter so that it fit properly in the slot. I don't know that this is required, it is basically a piece of plastic that attaches to the card so that it is guided into the slot properly, but it was easy to put on and did the trick in terms of the card fit snugly and I felt I didn't have to worry about putting undue torque from the firewire cable on the card while it was installed.

I purchased the 2 Port ExpressCard 1394a Firewire card and it was fragile and when I pushed it a little too far in the computer it apparently damaged it to not operating.

this product was a bit unstable. not only do u have to configure it onto the device manager, you have to be careful not to accidentally dislodge it from the port and sometimes it's hard to get the pc to recognize the device

Worked as advertised. Easy plug in and use without any issues. My laptop didn't have the firewire slot so this came in quite handy and it the best part that it was cheaper than most of the expresscards shown on Amazon.

It didn't work without power adapter, witch you have to buy separately .I tried Radio shack kinda universal one but it still = Mac doesn't recognized it. I just don't get it - is why this thing without all accessories. Though they didn't tell you that cable is included,so you buy one more for no reason. What a joke it just like to sell a car without a wheels (they are optional ) .

I could not believe how well this 1394 card works with my Dell Latitude E5430. After years of searching for a way to transfer my Fire-wire Sony cam videos into a newer computer, I finally found this card. No extra software was required. The driver is in the Dell hard drive and loaded as soon as I pushed the card in. Then I hooked my Fire-wire cam up to the card and it was immediately recognized by my Corel Video Studio. I was loading video within 5 minutes. Thank you Star Tech.
