Kanji Look and Learn

It's a great book, not ideal for beginners that are taking up Japanese, but perfect for those that took at least two courses of it because you can refer back to this as a dictionary as well and the cute little drawings do make things easier to remember stroke order and meaning to the kana itself. I love it! Plan to using it and improve my Japanese.

It's the reference book to the workbook. It gives you the meanings, the readings, and mnemonics, plus stroke order. The workbook is excellent in testing you what you have learned.

This book is really laid out to how each kanji is written. Then it has each word the kanji is used in. For me the book is very helpful for learning my kanji. I also like the pictures they use to try to help you remember why the word is known to be that word. But really I like that each word is shown when the kanji is used. I think that is the most helpful. And it has in the back of the book the breakdown of it. So if you know it is a na kanji you can look under na and find it.

This was a book chosen by my kid for a gift. Interesting book with great service.

初級を終えて次に何を使うか迷っていましたが、この本を選んで正解でした。文法や語彙が体系的にまとめられていて、無理なく中級レベルに進むことができます。解説も分かりやすく、独学でも使いやすい一冊だと思います。5つ星です。

I find the book to be very helpful, it provides explanations on different pronunciation of the kanji and example vocab, which is the main reason why I got the book. I’m using it mainly as a dictionary of kanji, and break down of stroke orders and strokes parts are invaluable in remembering how to write them. The index in the book is also excellent, with multiple ways of indexing to help you find the kanji you’re looking for (e.g. by stroke count, stroke parts, pronunciation). This book is marketed for non-Chinese native users, but as a chinese speaking native, I find the book to be equally helpful (though admittedly not the mnemonic part). I do find the binding of the book to be very odd though. It’s a soft cover book and the endpapers are partially glued to the covers, so when you open the book it makes the covers puff up. I snipped the papers to get rid of that since it was bothering me.

Me gustó todo de este libro. Se incluye las diferentes lecturas, los ejemplos de uso, la secuencia de la escritura de cada kanji y la ayuda mnemónica es muy buena. No tengo ninguna pega para este excelente libro.

I bought this on a whim from some recommendations online as I need some resources to take a step up on my Japanese learning and this is exactly what I needed for Kanji learning! I'd gotten to grips with certain Kanji, but there's a few where my brain won't click what they represent. This book essentially gives a Kanji reference and explanation, but it's main selling point is that it gives a visual reference to the Kanji with pictures and (sometimes funny) explanations - that way the information can go in a little better. I'd recommend this to anyone studying Japanese, honestly. Even if you're just struggling with a few words!
