Excellent laptop
I highly recommend the Asus Vivobook (ASUS Vivobook 15 OLED X1505ZA 15.6" Full HD OLED Laptop (Intel i5-12500H, 16GB RAM). I can't really talk about its biggest selling point, the OLED screen, because I HDMI the laptop to an external monitor, but for what it's worth, the OLED screen is very impressive with bright deep colours. Related to using the external monitor, I like that the Asus has a 180 degree "lay flat" screen hinge, so it doesn't obscure the external monitor. The Asus laptop has quick start up time; yes, that'll probably slow down over the next five years as most laptops do, but we'll enjoy the good times while they're here. The intel i5 12th gen H series handles multiple processes like Adobe Photoshop, Cap Cut and multiple streaming Internet Explorer tabs effortlessly and I've hardly noticed the fan at all; in fact my external hard drives are louder in operation than the Asus. There's no ethernet port; I believe you can get an adaptor that allows ethernet use. There's a USB C port, which I've never had on a laptop before, so that's handy. Lack of lights on the keyboard is annoying but not a deal breaker. Also a lack of SD card reader, but again no deal breaker Slight negative is the keyboard area around the 'enter' button... when you press the 'enter' button, the surrounding keyboard plastic presses downwards, giving it a 'cheap' feel. It's my first ASUS and so far after three weeks I have no regrets. UPDATE: 27 Dec 2024: touchpad no longer works, which for a laptop is important. All the steps followed on Asus website and still not working. Avoid this product!

decent desktop replacement as long as you are not using it on battery power
this is my review of the asus X1505ZA with i5 12500H and 15.6" FHD OLED display after almost six months of daily usage as a desktop replacement. When sold at discount price the CPU, size and display makes it a decent desktop replacement though the lack of full featured USB-C ports and the HDMI 1.4 port does not allow to connect 4k or high refresh rate external displays with resolutions above 1080p pros: + gorgeous display though it is quite reflective and that can be disturbing in some environments + core i5 12500H is fast though it doesn't run at its best because of asus setting the tdp profile at 35 vs 45W + quiet though when playing videos on internet the fan often kicks in with a loud though not too disturbing "swoosh" + runs without issues so far + price (when sold with substantial discount) + keyboard is fine + various config settings for preventing OLED burnout cons: - really flimsy build, the plastic of the display frame is really thin and flimsy, I wouldn't trust putting the laptop in a backpack laptop slot without putting a protective sleeve on it as I fear if anything catches the display frame it will easily damage it - power efficiency and battery life are rather dismal, I observe a usual battery active runtime from 100% to 0% and from 80% to 20% of about 3 1/2 hrs and 2 hrs. The most efficient setting I found is to turn on windows energy saver , when using CPU intensive software like photoshop, battery depletes very quickly - good number of ports but the lack of full featured USB-C and HDMI 1.4 limits significantly the resolution and refresh rate of external monitors - the description states the laptop is rugged and complies with military grade standards, however nowhere in the package and leaflets this is mentioned so I guess it doesn't apply to this configuration - the asus splendid software is helpful if you do not have color calibration hardware but it is annoying if you do because it cannot be deactivated and conflicts with other display calibration software - the webcam is simply bad

Disappointed
Two of my family members own Asus Vivobook laptops which impressed me enough to order one for myself. The laptop arrived on schedule. Having sccessfully set up several new laptops including one of the family's Vivobooks I did not expect to have any problems. I pressed the on button and followed the onscreen instructions. I was surprised at the extreme length of time it took to download the updates. When the initial instal procedure was part way through the touchpad stopped working so I had to complete the rest of the process using the keyboard alone hoping that the final reboot would restore the touchpad. It didn't. Noting that some online reviews have commented the loss of the touchpad I searched online for advice to solve the issue. None of the suggestions I found worked for me. So I contacted Amazon helpline who refered me to Asus for help, also Amazon said they would call me the next day to check on the situation. Unfortunately Asus help line had just closed for the weekend. Amazon did not call back as promised. After more searching the internet I decided to do a recovery from within the BIOS, the cloud recovery was slow but did work and restored the laptop to the new out of box condition. So back to the initial install setup. Once completed I had a working laptop with a working touckpad. Great! Next step was start downloading my favourite programs, and I noticed that the downloads were much slower than I would expect compared with other devices in the same location. Using the onboard diagnostic program It showed the signal was weak and suggested I move the computer closed to the router. Download speed got so slow I moved the computer next to the router and ran the diagnostic again, the advice was still the signal was weak and move the computer closer to the router. Having put in a lot of time and effort trying to sort this and getting nowhere I said something like "oh dear" and requested a return for refund which Amazon processed very easily.
