Spoiler alert - There are no nuts.
If you're a coffee snob looking for some delicate, artisanal notes, keep moving. But if you want a great, dependable daily coffee that doesn't break the bank, this New York Roast is a fantastic choice. The price per ounce is honestly unbeatable for this size can. Taste-wise, is it a crappy cup of coffee or the absolute best coffee in the world? Neither—but for me, fuhgetaboutit. It’s dark and flavorful with just the right amount of kick. I like my morning coffee to slap me around a little bit, and this delivers. It has a definite, satisfying bite to it without being bitter, and unlike a lot of other dark roasts out there, it isn't bland at all. It’s just a solid, bold, everyday cup at a killer price. Will definitely keep buying!

Chock Full o’ Competence
There’s something reassuring about a coffee that doesn’t need to shout. Chock Full o’ Nuts New York Roast understands this. It arrives in a no-nonsense steel can, the kind that feels less like marketing and more like infrastructure. The coffee inside is ground just right, not too fine, not too coarse; the kind of Goldilocks precision you’d expect from a brand that has been caffeinating commuters since before the term “artisanal” became a threat. The flavor is steady without being meek. It has a roasty, slightly nutty center, a faint edge of cocoa, and none of that burnt rubber aftertaste that passes for “bold” in certain Brooklyn storefronts. It brews clean, holds up to a splash of milk without collapsing into bitterness, and makes mornings feel less like a negotiation. And the can? Recyclable. Which means you can feel a flicker of civic virtue while pouring your second cup. No irony, no exaggeration. Just a solid, grown up coffee that tastes like the city it comes from: efficient, familiar, and quietly confident it doesn’t need to impress you.

Strong Flavor, great value
Great coffee. It is strong so I dont use as much as normal in my French Press. The cost was phenomenal. Highly recommend.

May need to blend it
This coffee is okay. I normally drink cafe buscelo but I have seen this plenty of times and was curious. However, if you are using a reusable coffee filter and not a paper one, you may have to ground it a bit of which is what I did. With how coarse the grind is, the water really has to marinate. I found that out after making a rather bland cup. After grinding the coffee even finer in my blender, it made a better cup of coffee that was okay. A mild but smooth taste. If you want to taste your creamer, this is definitely the coffee for you. I won’t be repurchasing as I prefer a bolder flavor and I don’t want to grind coffee before I drink it, but I wouldn’t turn it down either. Overall its average.

Flavorful, Affordable Retro Dark Roast Ground Coffee - Respect!
Great coffee! After seeing my favorite coffee at the grocery store was $12 for 12 ounces,I read several reviews, and decided to give this a try. ( I also had fond memories of my mom buying this when I was a teenager, so I was intrigued. I wasn’t sure it would still be good, but it was!) I have a Ninja Pods and Grounds coffee machine that I love, and tried this coffee with both methods. The grounds method was my favorite. Making 2+ cups at a time definitely made better coffee than just one in a single-serve pod, but I still use pods once in a while. The coffee comes ground in a 30 ounce can, and I put half of it into a Tupperware in the cupboard and half of it in the freezer. Generally, I buy beans, but this ground coffee was a nice surprise. For a dark roast, it’s not bitter, yet has that nice strong flavor that I look for.
