A BEAUTIFUL SET OF COLORS MADE WITH DUAL COLOR PIGMENTS - OUT OF THIS WORLD ;)
My current favorite things to watercolor are galaxies and nebulas. I’ve discovered that granulating paints yield some interesting results and are the perfect medium for capturing these spectacular subjects. So, with that in mind, I really wanted to try Schmincke’s granulating galaxy collection. These are all dual pigment colors. PHOTOS IN DIRECT SUNLIGHT My photos of swatches show the granulating characteristics of this collection. I took these photos using direct afternoon sunlight, so you can accurately see the vivid pigments as well as the dispersions. GALAXY VIOLET (MY FAVORITE) – PR233 and PB29 I think my favorite is the Galaxy Violet. If I were to buy just one color, this is probably the one I’d buy. It’s gorgeous! This color is a mix of PR233 (Manganese Blue) and PB29 (Ultramarine Blue). The pigments disperse to achieve striking results. GALAXY BLACK – PBK11 and PB29 My next favorite is Galaxy Black (which as you can see, in direct sunlight, contains a great deal of blue). This is a mix of PBK11 (Mars Black) and PB29 (Ultramarine Blue). If I were to try to pick another similar color, it might be Lunar Blue… except Lunar Blue combines lighter shades of blue similar to Manganese Blue with also Phthalo Blue undertones. GALAXY PINK – PBr33 and PV16 By coincidence, on my sheet of swatches, my Galaxy Pink swatch is right next to my Potters Pink swatch. They look so similar that I was surprised to learn that Galaxy Pink is made up by mixing PBr33 (Zinc Iron Chromite, or Mahogany Brown) and PV16 (Manganese Violet). In addition to Potters Pink, I think it is a bit similar to Ultramarine Rose. GALAXY BLUE – PG50 and PB29 Galaxy Blue seems to be the most opaque of this collection. It is made up of PG50 (Cobalt Turquoise) and PB29 (Ultramarine Blue). It is a very vivid light blue. I love it for showing some bursts of color against an outer space backdrop of dark contrasting colors. GALAXY BROWN – PV62 and PBR6 I have to admit that Galaxy Brown might be my least favorite. However, this is my own fault because I’m not sure how to use it yet. This is a mix of PV62 (Cobalt Violet) and PBR6 (Mars Brown). I think it might be nice when depicting asteroid belts or extraterrestrial planet surfaces. FINAL THOUGHTS Overall I am very pleased with this collection. I’ve had a lot of fun experimenting with this set. I’ve used it in conjunction with colors from several other brands to achieve some amazing results. Two thumbs up!

Best paint i have ever used.
I purchased this product knowing it was expensive and luxury. However i have tried many different brands of watercolors - including and not limited to: van gogh, paul ruben, sennelier, holbien and windsor and newton. This is by far my favorite paint. Very pigmented, creamy and overall a joy to use. It is beautiful! I will most likely buy the rest of the line and other of their paints. Size matched what was listed. Came from Blick and it was genuine.

Love Schmincke paint
Love the granulating colors and can't wait to use them. Very smooth paint, I noticed that when painting a small sample for the inside of my paint container.

Schmincke granulated set
Product nicely packaged and good service by supplier. The set is just too expensively priced in comparison ion to the other similar sets by SCHMINCKE offered by the art supplier. I will return this set and repurchase the same set/tube

Usually excellent paints!
I have collected every boxed set (5 x 15mL pack) of the Schmincke super granulation paints, provided in the wood boxes. These are simply the most gorgeous paints I have ever used, and I have tried most, if not all, professional paints out there. The granulation is unmatchable and these paints produce unique and amazing works of art every time. They are quite spendy, but I tell you they are worth it! Well, except maybe for the “Volcano” set. I have purchased this set 3 times in the past 18 months in an effort to get acceptable quality of two of the tubes. I am desperate to get a tube of the yellow and the orange with less than 50% binder. It is only occurring with these two colors in this particular set, but ithey have consistently been at least 50% binder with the paint you do get being milky and too thin to make work. I purchased 2 sets from a seller on Amazon and one at a major art store, hoping that a change in the lots would hopefully fix the issue. At this point, I am resigned to believe these two colors are unattainable. I am terribly saddened, but it is simply not a financially sustainable option to keep buying the set and crossing my fingers. I recommend these paints entirely, but recommend you be wary about the “volcano” set.

Really amazing group of colors...but
Probably not the point of a product review but I am here to be the one to tell you that you can live without this set. After months of back and forth and looking at the colors that I wanted and couldn't decide and should I buy two boxes and just one tube and whatever just buy the whole set. Well it's a beautiful set there's no denying it. But if you're like me and not rich with no business spending this much money on art supplies, you can live without it. Just buy a couple tubes of the colors that you're really fiending for because they are really nice

Jederzeit wieder!

Every beautiful trio of colors, in a tiny 5ml tube but useful for backgrounds and dark moods. Beautiful.

Super cute paints! I placed mine in a half pan. Paint is a little hard to activate when dry / harden in the pan, some preparation like water squirting is necessary, but once it gets going the colours and granulation is just devine!
