Bought this specifically to locate a break in a boundary wire for a Gardena robot mower (made by Husqvarna). I wasted hours trying to find it without a tool, but within 10 minutes of hooking this thing up, found the source of the break nearly 100 feet away from the loop. The signal had grown quite weak by then, but was still detectable if the sensor was placed next to the wire. I’m sure this thing will come in handy for future repairs to the boundary wire, as well as wiring issues on vehicles. It did include a pair of 9V batteries, but I think one of them died within a few minutes of use, so probably best to hand a new set on hand.

This is a good tool that is inexpensive and will pay for itself time and time again, chasing down open and short circuits just from the time you'll save as a flat-rate technician. I ordered it on Saturday, got it on Sunday, and used it on Monday. I was using another brand of short/open finder that you can buy off the tool truck for quite a few more bucks than this costs, and I've opened up the wire harness in four spots with false readings and found nothing. I spent a considerable amount of time trying to find an open circuit that could've been anywhere from the front PDC all the way to the spare tire where the Tire Pressure Monitor Module is, but decided to move onto something else because I had several things to do and come back to it later. I ordered this tool and used it Monday. I hooked it up to my circuit, and within 2 minutes I had located where the open was in the harness. I opened it up, and sure enough, that was where it was. I repaired the wire, and the Jeep was fixed. This tool shocked me, especially for how much I paid for it compared to other tools.

Like many others, used this to try to find a short in an engine bay. First time using such a device and I have no idea if I used it correctly. Meanwhile, a power probe clone tool later confirmed there was no short and crank-no-start mystery was resolved (the culprit was a dead PCM). While I didn't have "success" with this tool, I know many people swear by them when there's an actual short to be found so I'll be keeping this on hand.

For first-time users, the directions are worthless. They lack the courtesy of telling you the sender and receiver are already have batteries in place, but they are wrapped in a clear wrap. This part of the setup is not a big deal, but it just goes to show you they maybe make a great product, but have no clue about making their tool user-friendly. This is a whole new world for me and others who have always done the same thing., but in the old fashion way that this tool supposedly does. For the first-time user, there would be a steep learning curve, plus the directions are terrible, bad, bad, bad. My review is based on first-hand information, but I never was able to use the tool because of the failure of the tone/buzzer. The directions are what they are, short on descriptions... They should have a warning. "for Professionals only who have experience with this tool"... Good luck,...

I picked this up after a suggestion from a friend, while trying to troubleshoot an intermittent open circuit to my SUV's HVAC blower. I suspected an issue with the wiring behind the dash, but it turned out to be in the fuse block under the back seat. Some of the plastic around the pin that was downstream from the fuse had melted, and caused a contact issue with the connector. There's no way I would have thought to look there, as previous troubleshooting steps verified voltage on both posts of the fuse. Using this device from the fuse side resulted in no signal on the underside of the fuse block, and along the wire bundle heading up to the front. Reversing the process and sending the signal from the HVAC connector end in the dash, gave a strong signal through the entire bundle all the way to the connector in the back, leading me to disassemble the fuse block and make the discovery.

Not sure if using correct but it like tone everywhere. This what I did hook one end to each pin in the connector but I'm thinking where the other end goes? From all the customers with good experience then explain how to test from a connector. I would like to see if the wires are going to it and no short along the way.
