Not sure, but I've been using it for 3 months without charging!

Yes, you can. Works fine either way.

Is it loud when it operates?

I think it's fine. I use it in the office, and it doesn't make much noise.

Love this talking bin

I had a previous bin similar but didn't talk,it got broken by my dog,anyway replaced with this one and i love how it talks you through the whole process lol,it always says over filled,choose to compact manually or tap again within 5 seconds to continue,i just give it a second tap and it compacts it harder to make it fit,and you really don't have to do anything except press the button listen to her talk and take the bag out when she tells you,and she will tell you when she's layed the new liner,happy days.
