This precision 1000 mm metric rigid ruler is made by Shinwa Measuring Corporation, a premier tool manufacturer. Rule is made from spring tempered and hardened stainless steel and is 1.375” wide by .060” thick. It has a “zero-glare” satin chrome finish on the face that can be easily read in both low and bright light conditions. One face has metric graduations in both .5mm and mm and the reverse side has metric conversion tables and tap drill sizes. Graduations are precision photo etched and then black filled for easy readability. 100 mm divisions are marked in red. The sides of each rule are precision ground parallel to each other. One end is accurately ground square to allow accurate reading, while the other end is rounded with a hole for hanging. Review: Real thing - Ah now, this is a proper ruler if I’ve ever held one. Made from high-quality Japanese steel, thick and rigid that it won’t bend very easily in the wind unless you’re trying to measure a rainbow. The satin finish is a beauty—easy on the eyes and even easier to read. Grade 1 through and through. Life’s too short for flimsy tools, and while Mitutoyo doesn’t make a 1000 mm version (sure it’s a pity), this one more than makes up for it in sheer quality. A grand ruler that’ll outlive half the things in your toolbox. Review: Highest Quality & Made in Japan - There are conflicting reviews as to where this is made. My Jan 2024 purchase was made in Japan, see attached photo. The bright surface is easy to read. No unhelpful 1/2 mm marks. Stainless steel is much better for rulers as aluminum has parallax due to its thickness. More generally the Shinwa tools are excellent. I love using them.

Rigid, accurate, easy to read
I use this primarily as a flat edge. I work in industrial automation. It's held up really well. The ruler I received had a matte finish as opposed to a 24" shinwa ruler I bought. Makes it easy to read from various angles. Very happy with the price and quality.

Accurate and sturdy
Very nice ruler for the money. Nothing else on the market comes close within the same price range. Dead on accurate, very sturdy and easy to read. My only complaint is the thickness of it. I use this to Mark fret slots for guitar building so I tape this down to my centerline to ensure it doesn’t move. Because the edge is smooth and the ruler is hefty it’s difficult to line up your mark where you want it.

I love it!
Ok, so it's not cheap. I had this in my cart forever before I finally bought it. I know that you'll see reviews on here about some Shinwa products that are made in China and some are made in Japan - whatever. It's Shinwa, its good. I've come to trust this brand. As I'm typing this review, I have other Shinwa products in my cart. It appears to be a company that produces all-around good quality products that you don't have to rob the bank to get. I love Starrett stuff - particularly their vintage stuff - but, damn they're expensive. I'm not a machinist so I don't need precision down to microns. I'm a leather worker so need precision down to millimeters and, so far, Shinwa hasn't let me down. It's good stuff that will last a lifetime, if you take care of it. I'm happy with it.

Go Metric!
This is an excellent, high quality measuring tool. As a woodworking hobbyist, several years ago I started using the metric system for most my measurements. This scale is marked in millimeters and half millimeters. The divisions and the numbers are extremely readable against the satin chrome finish. Because it is marked in millimeters only, rather than millimeters and centimeters or millimeters and inches, it is very easy to use without having to do any mental gymnastics. I also use the smaller Shinwa 150mm and 300mm rules. This 1000mm rule is handy for laying out and for testing edges for straightness. On the back side of these rules is a conversion chart to inch measurements and a metric tap drill chart. In my opinion, the Shinwa rules compare favorably to Starrett and Mitutoyo rules.

Nice ruler
Easy to read, not flimsy but not totally rigid and received in good condition inside a cardboard tube that probably needed some newspaper stuffed into each end to prevent movement of the ruler during shipment. The only thing damaged was the ends of the plastic sleeve that took the brunt of movement inside the tube. Recommend this ruler.
