Before consuming, these berries should be boiled down into a syrup, as they do contain low levels of naturally occurring toxins. By boiling, the toxins are completely removed, leaving a safe, toxin-free syrup that is high in antioxidants, and highly beneficial for the immune system.

Is it cheaper to boil the berries for syrup and if so, how do you do it?

It is much cheaper to make your own than to buy store brands like Sambucol. You just boil 3/4 to 1 cup of the dried berries in a quart of water until the liquid is reduced by half, strain it through a cheesecloth, add 1/2 to 1 cup of raw honey, sugar or pure maple syrup according to taste, and put it in a jar in the fridge.If that's too much work you can make an elixir by steeping about 3 oz of the berries in a pint of good brandy with about half a cup of raw honey (or more to taste) in a sealed jar in your cupboard for 6 weeks.

Where do I store these dried elderberries? Fridge? Freezer? Pantry?Thanks.

I store my ready made cooked elderberry ice cubes obviously in the freezer, then I can bring them out when needed but I keep the dried berries on the very top of my cabinets where my kids cannot reach them. From my research they are poisonous until they are brought to a boiling point. But I would also think the back of your freezer would work too and extend their shelf life.

Is this product freeze dried?

No, just dried berries. I use them in tea, you will need to reconstitute them before using. They are very dried, not a snack-out-of-the-bag type of dried fruit. As an aside, they are VERY GOOD; I found a cheaper product made by another company and decided it was worth it to pay more for these.

It is what it is. Dried elderberries. Good value, good product.

5 stars because it is what it is. Dried elderberries and nothing else. Good value for the price. I boil/steep 3/4 cup at a time with 2 cups water to make elderberry gummies to boost my immune system. Mixed with some lemon juice and stevia to sweeten it, they taste decent. This product is exactly what I wanted. I will repurchase.

Product has a pleasant taste, I grind up the berries and add it too loose tea and steep. Product arrived quickly. Pleased with the product....good alternative to juice...I don’t drink the juice up before it spoils...so this way I just used what I need when I need it ...

Must have for colds - Elder Berries

I love the brand of Organic Dried Elder Berries for teas. If you have a cold and want to build your immune system, this is a must have. The is worth the money. It only takes a tablespoon to make a good cup of tea - teaspoon for children - 8 oz. As soon as I feel a cold is coming on or my throat is feeling funny, I make me a cup of Elder Berries tea. The taste is excellent. You can add honey and lemon to your tea and enjoy. Picture showing what the berries and the tea look like.
