can this be used for soil testing?

At step 2, our water is yellow, but if we wait longer than 2 min it clears. Should we wait for step 3 after it clears?

Color of the water is irrelevant. Conduct the test as the directions tell you. The test strip hangs above the water.

I followed all directions and can’t get it to work.

This test is very time sensitive and if too much time has passed before proceeding to the next step or before taking readings, you will not get results. You may also not have detectable levels (for this particular kit) in your water. You may need the low range or ultra low range test kit. Can this test be used on liquids other than water? Coffee or other beverages?

I do not think so. The test results rely on CAREFULLY seeing the color change in the water - ie. comparing the liquid color to the color chart.
