Just got this in today and it doesn't work. I tried different batteries and switched the inside switch off and on. Any other ideas so I can gift it?

Happened to me with a second unit I got. Just give a little help to the arm by moving it very gently while turning it on. It will then work.

Is there a speed control? Some videos show a slower arm others a much faster 'cat swipe speed' arm.

No speed control, arm moves so fast it ruins effect.

Marketing material says it's earth quake resistant. How exactly is that accomplished? Sounds amazing!

Don't waste your money. It is exactly what it says. A useless box. I bought it for my grandson and wished I would've saved the money cause it wasn't worth it.
