Review: Great collection with a nice combination of recipes that can easily be made on a weeknight versus more complex special occasion recipes. My only quibble is that while most ingredients are listed by weight or volume, there are several recipes where ingredients like fresh herbs or vegetables are listed by quantity— one bunch or two onions offer quite a range of possible amounts, so it may help to be a somewhat experienced cook. Favorite recipes include: One-pot chicken thighs and rice Spiced chilli and coriander chicken Honeymoon tomatoes, avocado, and anchovies Spanakopita jacket potatoes Braised sausage, fennel, and lentils One-pan pastitsio Cabbage, green bean, and sesame salad Mussels in saffron yogurt Review: Very nice book look forward to cook from it

Oh my word Georgina Hayden, you've only gone an' bleedin' done it again! A corker of a book! Waited on tenterhooks on release day for it to drop on the doorstep and was glued to it for a couple of hours. The recipes are really unique, based on Georgie's practical interpretation of Greek recipes and taste combinations. The ingredient lists aren't too long and the ingredients are readily accessible too. The cover and photography are stunning. And the beautiful dress on page 229 - Georgie you most definitely are apricot and orange blossom! The complete package. Here's an idea of the contents so you get a feel for the amazing recipes: A good start - sweet and savoury ideas for brekkie. This weekend I'm making bobota (cheesy chilli cornbread) and charred pepper with olive strapatsada (tomatoey scrambled egg with pepper and olives). I'm also looking forward to the homemade yoghurt flatbreads and gala trin (think of a gently spiced rice pudding with tagliatelle instead of rice). The village sausages/beans/peppers on toast and pralina bougatsa (chocolate hazelnut custard filo pie) look delicious and I really fancy making the grilled watermelon breakfast salad in this beautiful weather. Small dishes and snacks - standouts for me are the battered gigantes with a cold beer, filo-wrapped feta, whole grilled halloumi with apricots (having this for lunch tomorrow in the sun) and artichoke houmous. How about some spiced honey calamari, fried sesame cheese bites or herby skordalia garlic dip? Everyday heroes - some great week night meals here, I've made 5 of these: Skordostoumbi pasta (roast some cubed aubergine, cherry tomatoes, garlic and feta together then mix through pasta), Spanakrisotto (a hidden chapter with 3 everyday versions of spanokopita), village pasta with chicken and lemon, classic biftekia and chips and the amazing, rich and delicious one-pan pastitsio. All of these recipes were so easy and made with accessible ingredients. I've got my eye on the sole bourdeto with new potatoes, tuna/egg/caper salad and halloumi fried chicken. I love feta but am definitely team halloumi! Things on sticks - kebabs and kofta on sticks with obligatory crispy garlic oven chips and chopped kebab salad to go with them Vegetables - looking forward to making Hasselback stuffed aubergines, green gigantes, tserepa (roast chicken with potatoes and peppers), pulled chicken gyro with all the trimmings, triple-fennel pork belly with a smiley Pete and youvetsi (meat and orzo pasta) Salads, sides and vegetables - classic watermelon/feta/cucumber, lemon/oregano/feta potatoes, mum's sliced potatoes, fried and pickled peppers, corn with thyme and burnt butter and simple pilafi to name but a few Sweet tooth - can't wait to try the chocolate party cake Sokolatopita, Greek coffee-walnut layer cake, olive oil ice cream slice along with the apricot and honey sorbet. The rizogallo is delicious (chilled rice pudding with cinnamon and rosewater) and please try the baklava cheesecake, a salty-sweet-crispy-smooth-nutty delight, it's incredible. There is also a hidden chapter on baklavaesque desserts and some soft drinks. And everyone is talking about the feta, cherry and white chocolate cookies! Sorry this review is a bit long but hope it gives you a taste of what is yet to come. My sons love this food, too - eyes roll back into the head, rapturous look kind of reactions. Thank you Georgie, can't wait to make these dishes for the rest of my friends and family. "Good food and good times with my favourite people" is my main goal too. Yes, the recipes don't slavishly follow tradition but, if you don't like that, take it up with the ancestors - so says Mrs Hayden!! You have to get this book or persuade someone to buy it for you.
