No, letter size is 8-1/2 x11, these are 6x9. However, you only need to fold your paper one time for a perfect fit.

9 1/8" inch tall and 5 7/8" wide. So whatever your putting in it, figure Max of 9" by 5 3/4".

will they work in a laser printer, especially with the self seal mechanism?

There is no self seal "mechanism", just a simple peel and stick flap that you, of course leave open and extended to go through the machine. I've run such an envelope through my printer before, however I still prefer to use a separate 3"x5" white peel and stick label for my addresses because I always include some kind of cute graphic as well, and looks far more attractive than plain and simple.

Has the quality been updated since the bad reviews in April/May 2021?

I didn't have any problems with these envelopes. I used them to mail out 100 cards - and didn't notice any defects or poor quality.
