Custom class 3 hitches are the most common type of receiver hitch for pickup trucks and SUVs. Because of their weight range, they are also found on full-size cars, crossovers and minivans. Each custom-fit class 3 hitch package is made for vehicle-specific mounting. This particular kit fits certain years of the Ford Explorer and Ford Police Interceptor Utility (see application info to verify vehicle compatibility). It provides a weight carrying capacity of 4,000 lbs. GTW and 400 lbs. TW. It is also compatible with a weight distribution hitch for level towing and a rating of 5,000 lbs. WD and 500 lbs. WDTW. CURT class 3 trailer hitches are typically used to attach and haul utility trailers, boat trailers, campers, snowmobile or ATV haulers and more (NOTE: Never exceed the lowest-rated towing component). Each class 3 hitch has a 2" receiver tube and is tested in accordance with SAE J684 for safety. A: You bet there is. It's a standard 2" opening, and there are several adapters available depending on what you're trying to accomplish. Just type "2" hitch adapter" into the Amazon search bar. Good luck!

**Q: Will the receiver fit on a 2017 Explorer that already has a factory tow package installed?**
A: Yes this will fit a 2017 bolts where the current hitch would be.

**Q: Does it fit a 2012 ford explorer?**
A: YES! I have a 2012 4WD explorer, and it was super simple to install. The directions are not the easiest.. but we brought our iPad into the garage and watched the U-Haul video. I would highly recommend getting an exhaust plier ordered at the same time. that thing saved our butts.

**Q: Does this trailer hitch have a place to mount a trailer wire bracket?**
A: This does not have a trailer wire socket bracket.  It would be purchased separately.
