Review: great book. - When I first received this book, it was very damaged. I had zero problem returning it and getting a new book. This is a great book. It discusses a lot of techniques related to creating your own jewelry. I can't wait to start utilizing the techniques learned in this book. Chasing, metal shaping, texturing, several techniques to cast your own pendants/beads, etc. It touches up on stone setting and filigree to give you the basics of how to do it. It's a great book for beginners or those looking to expand on techniques not yet learned. Great price for what you get. Review: Full of Metal Techniques! - I purchased this book simply because I wanted to make a toggle clasp that worked. I found it on page 71, and it turned out well! The book is probably filled with almost every technique a jewelry maker might need. There are also quite a few tutorials near the back of the book. The pictures are clear and well done, making it easy to follow the instructions. There are some terms I was not familiar with because I believe the author was from Britain. For example, fretwork is more likely to be called piercing in the U.S. At the start of the hingeing tutorial, tubes are called knuckles, although the phrase tube cutter is also used. However, slight changes in vocabulary are not really bothersome. I would recommend this book highly as a compendium of metal techniques.

Silversmithing for Jewelry Makers: A Hnadbook of Technoques and Surface Treatments
I was so pleased when this book arrived two days after Christmas, this certainly surpased my expectations! I really recommend it too. It has just the right balance of creative and practical ideas. I also like the way that with many of the techniques, such as making up pickle solution, you are given various options so that you can make an informed choice that suits your preferences and situation the best. I have bought many jewelry making books now and I think this is one of the most useful ones I own.

Must have for your jewelry-making reference library.
Learn the basics and take your jewelry making to an advanced level with this fabulous foundation resource for silver jewelry making. Easy to understand directions and good visuals. I looked through many jewelry instruction books before deciding on this one and was very impressed with it. Can often find it on sale and is paperback, so great value for price. Recommend for all levels, for beginner learning and reference source for advanced workers. Also, projects are beautiful, sophisticated and very wearable. Many technique books have projects that you would never wear, whereas the examples in this book are creative and something you would wear and inevitably receive positive feedback.
