It's not how long but how well you closed it. The way it works is, that there are two waterproof strips that form a barrier to protect the content inside the pouch. The material is smooth and waterproof which needs to be closed properly which means - there should not be any gap or dust or soil or sand in between the top strips which creates a waterproof barrier for the content inside the pouch. If you fail to close properly, then even in less water, the water can easily enter inside. But if closed properly, then not matter how long or how deep you go inside the water, it will still stay intact. Also if you are above water and throw this closed pouch on water, it will stay afloat, it wont drown, unless you are putting something very heavy inside it. Hope this answers your question.

Would 2 iphone 7 plus's fit in this case?  What about sunglasses in a case?  Thanks

Two iPhone 7's will definitely fit in this case. However, two iPhone 7's plus a pair of sunglasses would not fit. FYI, I put my iPhones in a waterproof case like lifeproof before i put them in this case just to be 100% safe but never had any water leaking issues. I love this case!
