Despite all the planning in the world, nothing can really prepare a soon-to-be new parent for that big step after the baby is born. All that well-intentioned information and counsel offered by family and friends is just not enough and likely confusing when the stressful days arrive. Written by leading pediatric experts in a friendly, easy-to-understand style, Baby Care Basics offers a comprehensive guide to help parents make the right choices for that new baby. In full color, the book is engaging and user-friendly. It covers all the essential topics from a baby's birth, first few days, growth, development, breast-and formula-feeding, introducing solid food, to sleeping through the night and much, much more. Having easy and quick access to this comprehensive information is so important in getting started on parenting and establishing a routine that works for all. Review: Detailed and unpretentious, unintimidating - I absolutely love and recommend this book. Very detailed and yet really, basics. I found it much better than the Mayo guide or the what to expect book. It's kinder, simpler, and an easier read! A lot of thoughtful information on feeding, sleeping, etc. Review: Five Stars - well written book about pregnancy and what to expect after the baby is born.

Excellent resource!
My daughter-in-law is having a baby, and itโll be our first grandchild. I got her this book, which was produced by three doctors from The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, one of the worldโs leading pediatric care hospitals since 1875. The book provides exactly what the title claims, covering the basics in a friendly and concise book which still manages to be extensive and authoritative. Itโs easy to read, with each chapter divided up into lots of very small sections, including sidebars, notes, pull quotes, FAQs, and โWorks Best forโฆโ bullet points, with clear headings, so you can find what youโre looking for quickly (even in the middle of a 3 a.m. feeding). Iโve had several children of my own and have had some training as a midwife, so I was glad to see the practical, accurate, relaxed and down-to-earth information new parents need, with a minimum of panic-inducing โsee your doctorโ commands. For example โSleep when your baby sleeps,โ is just the sort of advice every new mother needs, as well as a chapter introduction that advises new moms to just focus on them and the baby their first month together. There are many practical tips, like how to hold and swaddle your infant. There is some great info on breast-feeding, including different positions, how to get a good latch, and treating common problems. The book continues on through the first year, covering sleep, eating, teeth, and sickness, with some helpful charts on development stages. I especially liked the listing of how to interpret your babyโs cries โ which generally increases toward 6 weeks, and diminishes thereafter, the book notes. The soft-cover book is well-bound, with nice paper, and includes lots of photos for reference as well.

solid book
book covers the basics from pregnancy through baby's first year. I was hoping for more information on things like baths, grooming, developmental play, etc. The information the book has is very good though.

This is a must-read for parents of babies. The pediatric team from The Hospital for Sick Children very thoroughly answers the questions parents will have during the first year of their baby's life.

Excellent Resource for new Moms and Dads
I bought it for my son and daughter in law after hearing an interview with one of the doctor from Sick Children's hospital in Toronto that helped write it. Very easy to read, informative, and also gives some good tips on how to cope with certain situations. Excellent resource!!!

This was recommended to me for my son and daughter-in-law .... it looks informative inside with wonderful pictures and descriptions and explanations ... that's all I can comment on as I didn't go through it thoroughly but from what I've heard from the kids, it's great!
