Citizen Men's Eco-Drive Promaster Sea Orca Watch, ISO Compliant, Luminous

I always liked this design but unfortunately never got around to buying the original in titanium. Roll on 17 years and Citizen have reissued the watch in stainless steel. I believe Orca was a nickname given to it by the watch community and was never officially endorsed. It now appears that Citizen took this onboard for the re-release and included an engraved and enameled killer whale on the caseback which is a really nice touch. It's a sizeable watch at 46mm but a short lug to lug of 48mm makes it much more wearable. It sits well on my 7.25 inch wrist and wears more like a 44mm. It's very a high quality item with solid construction in stainless steel and weight is about 185 grams with 3 links removed. Bezel is 60 click with a smooth action and absolutely no play plus perfect alignment all round. The bracelet is excellent for a Japanese watch in this price range with a milled inner clasp and an on the fly adjuster which works very well. There are also 2 half links so you are guaranteed a good fit. Crystal is domed mineral with good clarity and nice vintage distortion. People get too hung up on sapphire these days and this is perfect for a dive watch as it will not shatter. Dial is perfectly executed with fantastic lume on the oversized markers and handset. Amazingly the second hand hits the markers almost dead on. The only drawback is that I had to import the full stainless version via Amazon EU from Italy and it appears that it doesn't qualify for the usual 6 year warranty. At the price I paid and with known eco drive reliability I'm not too bothered. It also came in the older yellow dive bottle packaging and was devoid of documentation so not sure if it was a previous return. That said it's in perfect order and it's the first citizen I've owned with the dive bottle packaging so I'm happy with that. Highly recommended if you have the wrist size to pull it off.

I bought the Citizen Promaster Sea “Orca” BN0231-52L for its striking design and diving capabilities. It has a solid construction, with a sturdy bracelet and an adjustable clasp that is extremely useful. I love that I don’t have to change the battery thanks to the Eco-Drive. The luminescence is exceptional, ideal for low-light environments. On the wrist, it’s somewhat heavy and large (46mm), but with the right fit, it’s not uncomfortable. The crystal is a mineral, not sapphire, but for everyday use, it’s fine. Overall, it’s excellent value: it’s sturdy, beautiful, and functional.
