I think I could've just kept on dying anything else afterwards with that solution if I had wanted to. Just remove the dyed garment and put in the next one. I have a LOT of clothes I want to dye black, so maybe I'd only need one bottle to do all of them. On my off-white pillowcase, it came out a darker brown than the packaging color, almost dark chocolate but keeping that warm rich brown. If I took it out earlier, it'd probably be the color on the bottle - it's nice to be able to customize the shade. The only thing that was a bit of a hassle was rinsing out the dye until the water ran clear. That took... awhile. But so worth it! It depends on how much dye you are using, etc. I usually use a dishwashing tub, about 2/3 full. **Q: if I use this violet dye on an orange linen dress, will it come out violet or some other color?** A: Using this dye on other colors, the result was a blend of the original color with a red-violet tinge, turning a light brown to warm red-purple, as this is an orchid purple that leans pink. Also, if an item is a light orange with larger amounts of dye that isn't diluted with a lot of water, the result will be closer to that orchid purple. If it's darker orange, I think the result will be more of a reddish color. **Q: I'm trying for a light pastel shade of purple, more lilac, can this be achieved by controlling the dye amounts or perhaps exposure time? Thank You** A: Not this violet one. Buy the purple dye and yes! If you do not use fixative the dye comes out light. More fabric or 1/2 bottle will do it. Honestly I out more items it to spread the dye and only salt. Then wash immediately with soap to remove any excess.
