It’s amazing (don’t trust the negative reviews)
After the cats finally got warmed up to it, it’s been one of the best products I have purchased in my adult life. It’s app works perfectly and I have not had an issue like people have whined about (I almost guarantee they have a poorly setup wifi solutions using their ISP rental modem/router combos and no dedicated router). I push a button it cleans, I use the app it cleans, the only issue is hiding the tubes for the water and exhaust tube into the toilet. I had 9 cats in the house fostering and it’s been kicking butt. I am down to my personal 3 cats again and it’s been a blessing I’ve completely removed my regular clay litter boxes (keeping them in storage in case of emergency) but I’m going to be buying another one to go into my laundry room because my cats deserve two places to poop/pee. Finally with all that being said for smaller homes I don’t know if this is the most practical solution because the bathroom is more or less taken over by the tubes and power cables and I have 5 total bathrooms so sacrificing one wasn’t an issue, also eventually there will be a hidden alcove for the actual genie which also isn’t practical for most so take that with a grain of salt everyone’s situation is different. Tl;dr Pros: 1. Easy af for everything I don’t even think about litter anymore. 2. Haven’t had a singular app or connection issue I can even flush it while I’m at work and flush the toilet when I get home 3. Smells nice I haven’t smelled any urine and the fresh scent is nice but some cats might be sensitive to it. Cons: 1. Pricy but honestly it’s not really because paying $20 every other week for litter over a year is the exact same price when the granules are mostly permanent other than when it gets kicked out of the box or flushed 2. The cartridge for scent is required to operate I wish it could just flush without spraying the sanitizer solution every single time 3. Not much other than getting the cats warmed up took some time and placing turds from the regular litter box in the genie to promote them to use it wasn’t a fun time 4. Large (kinda) and not for every home Message to creators if they even read this: I encourage a mode that lets us sanitize once a day instead of every cycle while it does regular flushes throughout the day allow it to be clean and regularly sanitized without blasting through the sanitizer solution. (I’ve been using manual mode for this reason and absolutely will not put it on a regular cycle like I would like to) Other non cleaning cycles would also be awesome, just a cycle to lay the litter flat again so it’s not lopsided for a second cat to push litter out of the genie would be welcome because I want to save as many granules as I don’t like being wasteful idk I feel like that’s not entirely wild of a concept for a future model and semi easy application If you do consider those and make a new model/update them send me free stuff ;) I’m joking but I would love to know if this was considered or not possible because it was already thought of by smarter people than myself!

Cat genie
I have had the cat genie it will be a week tomorrow. I am so happy I purchased it. I have four cats. 2 of them are already using it totally. And the other two are starting to warm up to it. With a little more time, I plan on getting rid of the second litter box and only use the cat genie. It definitely a lot cleaner than the automatic box that I have, where everything goes in a bag. But the smell lingers. I set the cat genie up and haven’t had to do anything. I plan on doing a monthly cleaning to ensure it lasts. But I love it. It’s cleaner, smells better and it’s pretty much takes care of itself. Other than adding litter or solution and the soak. I wanted to update this, because I broke the drain hook helping my daughter use the bathroom. Because I have our cat genie running into our toilet. So I called cat genie customer service and they are sending us a new drain hook. They were very nice and helpful with our needs, she even suggested risers for our toilet seat to help from breaking the new one when it gets here. And also let us know when our warranty would expire. I am very grateful to them. And that’s simply another reason why I will not use anything other than cat genie unless they come out with a more amazing one. I am so happy. I went from three automatic litter boxes to one cat genie and my house has lost a bad odor caused by the automatic boxes. I recommend anyone who has indoor cats give this a try, they will be happy they did. Update: I have now had this a month basically and I gotta say I am still loving not having to clean this cat genie. I had a issue one time and when I googled it, it wasn’t draining the line was stopped up so I took a little battery powered air pump and stuck it in the end of the drain hose and blew the line out and haven’t had any issues since. I also have already done the two hour soak and that wasn’t hard either. I definitely Do Not ever want any other litter box other than a cat genie. I just wish the offered washable pellets that are bigger so they don’t get tracked all over the house. That is the only thing I would change. I still think anyone who has cats needs this, it certainly has made us happy not cleaning litter boxes everyday. And our house doesn’t smell like it did. Ok, I just wanted to update my review after using this for a little while I had to have my septic tank pumped. So then I ordered the Cat genie whoosh, then after only two months I had to have my septic tank pumped and the lateral lines jeted. So you may want to reconsider if you have a septic system. Because this has cost a lot of money just because of a litter box.

Buyer beware. Machine is trash
This did NOT perform as we expected. It wasn't very quiet as we always knew when it was cleaning, regardless of the noise level of the home. The smell was atrocious most of the time when it was cleaning and it never got all of the poop if there was small nuggets or slightly loose, so during the drying cycle, all you can smell is poop throughout the entire house, despite assurance that it "manages and contains odors". The pellets are HIGHLY tracking and very uncomfortable to step on (think of stepping on the really small Lego pieces). The cleaning cycle was NOT fast and efficient, as it would take upwards of 30 minutes to clean itself, and cleaning the machine due to clogs or light guide being dirty was not easy as well, as there was usually remnants of dirty water in the machine, so taking it apart exposes you to smells akin to a port o potty that is in desperate need of cleaning that has sat in the sun for WEEKS. This machine is absolutely NOT worth the $500 price tag it comes with. And getting the cats to assimilate was absolutely impossible. Out of our 4 cats, we only got 1 to fully assimilate. The rest would avoid it like the plague and choose absolutely anywhere else to relieve themselves. When we tried the assimilating methods in the manual they failed, and when customer service sent us "different methods" they literally sent us the methods in the manual. Our biggest issue came in the customer service department, though. We were well within the 90 day return window, but just because we ordered from Amazon and not the seller directly, we were denied a refund so now I'm out $500 because they REFUSED to refund us for a machine that just did not perform as promised. So I was forced to throw it away because I cant ethically sell it to family for what I paid and nobody in my area will pay $500 for a garbage litter box. I will NEVER buy from Cat Genie TL/DR; The machine is trash and customer service won't refund you despite a 90 day guarantee. DO NOT BUY UNLESS YOU WANNA SMELL BAKED CAT POO!

Love this litter box
I loved this litter box so much I got a second one. I have 10 cats, so litter boxes were a chore (I had 7 automatic litter boxes that helped, but was still a lot of work to clean). I researched these for a bit before deciding to try one, since they are expensive and I wasn't sure how difficult it would be to set up. I got it and set it up in my laundry room, next to another litter box. Set up only took me about 15 minutes. The hardest part was getting the dome to fasten together (ended up using a hammer lol). It took a few weeks and me letting the other boxes get a bit dirtier, but they started using it more and more, so I decided to get another one to set in my bathroom. I've had the 2 set up for about 3 weeks now and they use the other litter boxes so much less. I'm hoping to get to the point if them using the catgenie exclusively, but I am down to 2 regular litter boxes and it has made my life a lot easier. As far as continuing cost, the cartridge is about $25. I got the 1st catgenie the middle of April and it lasted until the last week of May, so 6 weeks. I was paying about $60 every 2 weeks for crystal litter, so in the long run, these not only save me time, a mess, and smelly boxes, they will end up costing me less in the long run, even if I buy a cartridge for each cat genie monthly. The noise level, I'd compare it to a washing machine. It's not loud, but you can hear it. The 2 I have are right next to my bedroom and they don't wake me and I'm a pretty light sleeper. It comes with a bag of litter, I did buy an extra to add as needed and I haven't had to add any yet. It does track a bit more than the crystal litter did, but that's a trade off I'm willing to put up with. Just put a good litter mat under it. I'm actually thinking of getting a 3rd, but I'm not sure the best way to hook it up. My other bathroom isn't quite as big and they do take up a bit of space. Although not much more than a traditional litter box. Very glad I took the plunge.

Third one, still love it
This is my third Cat Genie purchase and I’m still a huge fan. I had one years ago for my first cat and loved it so much I bought one for my boy friend. When I moved, I left the first one for the new owners because it was such a popular item on the tour. Now I have a new place and the room for a new Cat Genie. I’m so happy to have it back. The automation is fantastic, the cleanliness and smell free house is wonderful. It’s a little noisy but totally manageable with its adjustable triggers. The price is the same as it was years ago and considering how much I’ve saved in litter, time, and sanity, I’d say it was worth it.

Not Worth Price
Too many issues for the price. Had to troubleshoot it every two weeks or so. Cartridges and granules are very expensive. You’ll have to order them more than you think you will, and they’re not Prime 2-Day, they take a week and sometimes longer to come in.

By no means a "genie"..
I have 4 cats and have had the CatGenie ai model for a year and a half. Some of my cats just don't like it. Turns out if I forget to put liter back in their boxes before an emergency weekend trip they'll use it, which is great I guess. I wonder if I got rid of my supplemental liter boxes if they would just use it... but even cat genie doesn't recommend one unit for 4 cats and I cant and wouldn't run a second unit somewhere else. The good. It works! The bad, if all your cats try to go to the bathroom at around the same time, the first one will activate the machine and the rest have to wait or go else where. You could set it on a schedule but then they are all walking in urine wet plastic pellets, especially problematic for long haired cats. Speaking of hair, the fur inevetibly gets into all the mechanisms... The cat genie also flings plastic pellets everywhere, even if you get the hood enclosure (an extra purchase) it piles plastic pellets around the scoop mechanism. I suspect when I move from this house the new owner will find random little plastic beads randomly in odd places like under the dishwasher and in the air vents, etc. Also, plastic! Everyone's favorite thing ever. Turns out you need to buy the beads more often than you'd thing and for being a giant waste product, surprisingly expensive even for the knock off brand. Also suprisingly expensive, the sani solution, that you are tied to for the life of the product as there is, intentionally, no good work around for this. Also, more disposable plastic with the sani solution cartridges. Next, maintenance. Maybe I'm the odd man out, but disassembling this device and cleaning the feces encrusted bits functioning bits is deeply unsatisfying. They sell a citric acid based cleaning product that's supposed to sanitize and help reduce the encrustification... but unless you use that a lot I don't see it helping much except with the smell. You really need to tear this thing down and get it mucked out at least every 3 months. If you don't it will start making horrid noises, so at least it warns you before it becomes entirely dysfunctional... The energy consumption is pretty sky high, compared to other litter products that simply rotate liter, purely a gear train and electric motor, compared to this water pump, motor, gear train, blow dryer monstrosity that gets wet and dry itself over the course of a 45 minute cycle multiple times a day. With energy prices skyrocketed and electric bills commensurately attempting to go to the moon, definitely worth considering. I'm on solar so it's negligible to me. Tips and tricks for long term life, the drain hose is entirely too long for most set ups, and the shorter the overhead height (the difference between where it pumps from and the drain it pumps to) the better for everything, pump, energy consumption, speed of draining, likelihood of a clog reduction... everything. The silly matt for gathering plastic pellets helps, and you can return the pellets back to the machine. Run hand held vacuum over top first, it will suck out some of the fur and things from the pellet trap before sending that into the machine, decreases how much fur clogs up the masticater. Beware of cats who do silly things... like eat string. What goes in comes out, if you are lucky. And then that out gets into the machine... problems and confusion abound. Noise. Absolutely noisey. Worse than my wife's damned fish tank with all the air pumping water pumping filtering and random rattle noise non sense. Loud enough to disrupt conversational volume. We have ours in the laundry closet. I have cut a literal cat door into the solid wood door between the living space and the closet. This has reduced the noise to around the same volume as the absurd fish set up. It has been a year and a half, so durability so far is reasonable, I have not had to replace any major components. Other than maintenance it is mostly set and forget. It has reasonable app functionality and controls. This may sound like hate mail, but I believe in a thoroughly educated voting base, the 4 stars is intentional, the cat genie absolutely serves a purpose and works. Is it a magic genie that wrinkles its nose and makes all the unsavory aspects of cat ownership disappear with no consequences whatsoever? No. Does it reduce how much liter I have to deal with otherwise and, most importantly for me, help make it not SMELL like I own 4 cats in my house when people visit? Absolutely. If there were one of the other machines that worked with pine pellets (the liter of choice outside of this machine) I would buy that in a heartbeat. In the meantime this meets a need sufficiently.

Amazing
I absolutely love not having to deal with buying big bulky containers of kitty litter or having to scoop every couple hours. A little adjustment but this product is pretty amazing. Purchase sanitizer cartridges and pellet boxes every several months. Use the app to set up time of cleaning while you're away and my kids (fur babies) love it. Best part is instead of having to clean a litter box once a week it's only every couple of months that you need to tear it apart and give it a little scrub to maintain it properly.
