Contain the animal.
I love how tall this is! I ordered this because my 2 year old toddler would wake up in the morning and very quietly sneak out of his room and get into stuff throughout the house before I woke up. This has eliminated the problem completely. He'll try to climb up it but the wire like mesh would hurt his feet if he put any weight on it. It's not sharp or anything, just uncomfortable. I noticed a review where someone said the stick snapped while trying to clamp it down. And it's true like most baby gates the wood is flimsy, but if you create the right amount of tension it will never snap. I was too lazy to mesure the space so I just started at the first indentation and went up one until it held the gate in place. If you go two slots over the right measurement I'm pretty sure it will snap. But even if it feels like there's not a lot of tension when pushing the stick down, it should still stick to the wall. it will be set in place and hold up just fine. I had my toddler test it out with pulling and pushing and it didn't move at all. I needed to get a taller gate for my son but I do wish it was just a little bit shorter so I could step over it. I'm 5'4" and I can't step over it which is kinda annoying having to undo it and redo it all the time when I'm using it. If it were just a little bit shorter it would be absolutely perfect. All in all I'm very happy with this gate. It reaches out far so I can use it in the kitchen walkway as well. The price is very very cheap and the wood may be flimsy but I have payed more for worse than this. As long as you know how to use it correctly, and UNDERSTAND that it's not supposed to have that much tension it's a great tool to have when you got a toddler running around. Hope my review is helpful to you!

Worth it
Worth every penny for sure. Very sturdy and stable gate my 2 year old hits and kicks it and doesn't even make it budge. He stands at 3 feet tall and this gate is perfect for keeping him out of rooms. Easy to set up and adjust the locking mechanism in place in seconds without hassle. Also conveniently folds into itself for easy storage. The wires for the gate itself aren't flimsy like most either and are also very nice and sturdy. Would be a hard gate to break. If you're 5'3" you'll fall trying to put your leg over the gate tho..you been warned lol

Seems great..
...but it might break soon. I say "might" because I unfortunately do not see into the future but if you can see in my picture, one of the rubber thingy-ma-bobs (sorry I don't have the technical term but I'm just reviewing it, not making it) is bending. It is connected to the arm and it looks like the pin inside of the thingy-ma-bob may continue to keep bending or even break one day. Once the arm is released, it goes back to normal so maybe not but it has me nervous that with enough pressure, it may give. I believe it is bending like that because I have to force the gate to fit. I have a standard sized opening, I believe, but when I put it up, the notch I have to use produces a lot of pressure. The next notch after and the notch before the one I am currently using wouldn't lock the gate in to keep it in place at all. Besides that, the gate is great! I leave a slight opening at the bottom so the cat can get in and out but even without that, the height is great. I needed it so my daughter would keep out of the toilet and she is dry so it did exactly what I needed it to do! The wood seems fine and all of the other thingy-ma-bobs and do-dads on the item all seem to be working great! It is in a high traffic area in the house so we open and close it a million times in a day and it doesn't seem to wear at all. The price was ideal and it came in it's own box which was nice. I only gave it the 4 stars because of the bent thingy-ma-bob or else it would have gotten 5.

Great for wide doorways/walkways, and good quality for the money
To preface, I use these gates for my dogs, not for babies/children, so my review might be irrelevant to some on here. I have an impressively Houdini-like dog that I’ve had to use a lot of trial and error methods to contain. One thing I’ve found that works is to use a gate on the bottom and to affix a gate like this directly above it for easy put-up and take-down when I leave/return to the house, respectively. I recently moved into a new house with a wider walkway and found that my existing top gate wasn’t long enough to fit in the walkway, so I searched Amazon for a wider one and found this. It functions as any other gate of the like, with two grips on each side that prevent it from slipping on the wall and the sliding bar to adjust the width. My primary reason for reviewing this lies with the maximum width it will accommodate, as it does differ from standard gates used for standard doorways/walkways. My walkway is 48”, and it fits with room to spare (I believe I secure it on the 4th notch from the top), which makes it perfect for my needs! Additionally, I was impressed with the sturdiness of the cross-hatched bars that comprise the insides of the frame. They are far more solid than those of gates of the like I’ve bought in the past If you’re in need of a good quality gate at a reasonable price, especially if you have a wide walkway/doorway to secure it within, this is a great option!

Not impressed
First off, there is a small chip in the wood. I wouldn't mind so much, but with the dark wood, it kinda sticks out. I love the rustic look of it. However, either I am an idiot or it doesn't work properly. It does not snug up tight to the door frame or wall. It came with plastic mounting things. But I bought this type of gate because I don't want to put holes in my walls or door frame. So if you are looking for a gate that uses pressure to hold in place, this is NOT the one you want.

Not as good as it used to be....
I bought on in October 2016. It is the second of the same that I have purchased. I thought that as I had purchased it before and as it was very good quality that I would be a safe purchase. Well, right away, I could tell the difference in its weight. Much lighter that my first purchase. I only bought a new one because the original one fell behind me and I accidentally ran over it in my very heavy electric power wheelchair. I would still be using it had I not broken it, of course. Well, the new replacement broke when it was in use less than two months. My sister was staying with me and when she went to lock it down, the lever just snapped in two. Very inferior quality compared to the original. I am currently looking for a new gate. It's hard to find the perfect one. As an aside, I was really shocked at the poor quality of wood. I really like everything else about it. The height, just perfect. I have one Pomchi that can easily jump the 24" height. He could easily scramble over this one as well. We were double gating with this and a 24". But since he is constantly on the move, jumping off the couch and other furniture and trying to jump fences, he's pulled a muscle in his back leg and though he still can get over the shorter fences, he cannot at this time jump the larger one. We tried taping the locking bar but it broke right where the silver piece locks into the groove. Also, the little brackets where the pieces slide to widen the gate are constantly coming loose. Those brackets also keep the sides together. It's really just a big pain and overall poor quality. I currently have everything taped together and just lean the gate against the outside of the door frame. I did attempt to find a way to contact the seller but Amazon seems to make that which used to be easy much more difficult than it should be. I am just very tired.

Nice, inexpensive gate for those who read the instructions and take some time to get used it it.
I needed a 'keep the dog inside gate' for my front door, I chose this one because it seemed to be decent quality and I liked the dark brown finish, also it was cheap in back in Aug 2019 when I bought mine and it is still cheap today in Oct 2022. Back when I got mine I read the instructions and spend 15 minutes just handling the device and getting used to the way it works. How people are breaking these is something I will never know because in a proper installation there is almost no force on any part of this gate. ~3lbs force is all that needed to keep this firmly in place. No it is not a security door and putting 60lbs force down to lock it in place is only going to break this gate. BTW I already knew the answer but I was curious what the company had to say about all the broken gates in these reviews here at Amazon. I called the company and they confirmed 100% that ~93-98% of the broken gates are from people who were unwilling to read the instructions and learn how to properly use this gate. Take your time and enjoy many years with your gate. Mine is pushing 3 years of age and it still works like new. If you are using this on an outside door and it starts raining then take it back inside, this is not a gate for outdoor use. If it does get soaked, just take it inside and let it dry off on its own. I have let mine get soaked many times and letting it dry off on its own brings it back every time. Here is to 3 more years! :-)

It’s good
Entered toddler state early and is reaching the stove top. I think it’s pretty sturdy. I am 5’8 and I just barely can step over it, without any struggle. They dumby proofed it so you have to put a little bit of effort when trying to take it down which is nice because it’s truly locked in place the space it’s in is 59inches and the baby gate can even be longer

Great quality and size
I use this as a gate for our pets. The larger size is great for our medium sized dog. Locks solidly in place. Light weight. Easy to move around. Great pricing. Exactly what I was looking for.

Simple and sturdy pet gate
Ordered this for our hallway to keep dogs in at night. Didn't want a permanent gate. Simple to use and flexible enough to get a good friction fit against satin finish walls. Recommended.

Wish it had a hinge to swing it open/closed.
Wish it had a hinge to swing it open/closed. As it is it must be lifted out and moved to the side for me to get in and out. I bought this to keep my old kitty inside, but let her still see out. Its doing the job I bought it for BUT I truly wish it had a hinge or something so I could swing it open and closed for me going through. If it had a hinge I'd have given it 5 stars.
