I have to say, this is actually a great kit for the money. Basic yes, but a decent way, if you take it at a slow enough pace to while away an hour or so with a little one and let them (and you) get excited about all the different fossils you find and can learn about. Its basic in that all you do is chip away at a plaster block and carefully remove the individual pieces but they clean up well, the book does a decent enough job at showing you what each one is and allows you to learn a little in the process. For the money,I think they make a good treat, stocking filler or small present for any child that even has a passing interest in the world of fossils (or other kits like gemstones etc.). We actually bought another, larger kit at another time after this one to excavate and add to the collection, went down just as well as this kit.

Great for the fossils topic in the science National Curriculum KS2! Children were learning about fossils in science and what made fossils. The clay board is a great representation of how things can become fossilised, and children needed to use tools to soak and chip away at the clay just as a palaeontologist would! This also takes time and children learn to be careful as the fossils don’t just crumble away, you need to dig around them. They dug up lots of fossils - I think it was 15. Each fossil is different and has been fossilised in different ways. Again, great for education. The set comes with a booklet of each fossil too - so children can read up on facts and quiz themselves. The actual activity is great fun, a little messy, but everyone enjoyed it. This is such a good learning tool and great value for money!

Quite messy and my nephew got bored of trying to chip through it after a while. He loved looking at all of the fossils though once they had been dug out. It came with a wide range of different fossils which he enjoyed comparing to his fossil book to find out more about them all. It was a good size and the fossils are reasonable. Good gift that kept him engaged and interested for a while, even if his mum then had to take over near the end.

This was a gift for the 7th birthday of a son of a dear friend, and her son is MAD about fossils....and he absolutely loved it! If you know a child that's interested in archaeology or fossils or science....this is a great gift. I bought something similar for my godchildren nearly 20 yrs ago, and they loved it too. It gives them time to enjoy something; anticipation & excitement of what they might find; teaches patience...and creates more memories than just sitting in front of a screen. Money well spent for the smiles & happiness it brought...not only for the child but the family sharing that moment with them.

Absolutely amazing fossils! Bought for my 11 year old granddaughter. She was fascinated and totally loved digging out the fossils and gems. So worth the money and something she’ll keep forever.

My sister bought this for my 6 year old son and it was such a hit I've bought it 3 times now for friends of his for their birthdays and I've had very good reports back from all the parents every time! Of course the "poo" is always a giggle inducing component!

Absolutely brilliant kit. Kept my 7 year old grandson interested for hours. The quality of the fossils was excellent and the written brochure of information was outstanding. Excellent, educational value for money.
