Comprehensive, step-by-step instructions with detailed illustrations make it easy to maintain and repair mountain, hybrid, or fat bikes. By leading expert Lennard Zinn. Review: Fantastic Reference Manual - If you ride a bike, do yourself a favour and pick up a basic set of tools and this book. It has proven to be invaluable to me and my families bikes. I picked up this book in July of 2023, so I've had it for a little under a year, and the amount of times I've used it I'm sure I've a ton of money in bike shop repairs. Some could argue that with internet forums and YouTube that you don't need a book like this, but when you're in the midst of doing battle against a squeaky bottom bracket with your hands covered in grease, who wants to scroll through a forum full of differing opinions, or sit through another YouTube ad. It's much easier to have this book open. All the steps and tools needed are clearly noted and are simple enough for anyone to understand, and the advice given throughout the book is top notch. With bike shop repair prices going up and up, I really can't recommend this book highly enough. Review: Comprehensive manual - Bought for my mountain bike mad grandson. He was impressed by the amount of detail the manual contains and felt it would be very useful as he intends to carry out his own maintenance on what is a very sophisticated and expensive machine.

Manages to be detailed and simple at the same time
With step by step guides to pretty much any maintenance and repair I can imagine this has already saved me more than it cost and made my bike much easier to ride as I picked up a couple things I hadn't even realised needed doing! The guide not only breaks down each process into workable steps but explains a little about it too helping increase understanding. I've always struggled with maintaining the gear shift on my bike but now have it working as sweet as the day it was new even after my bike was knocked over (without me on thankfully) which threw the whole system out, with the guide in hand I had it all back in place in no time saving a hefty repair bill otherwise.

This manual is worth every penny you would spend on this book
I would highly recommend this as it is a great bicycle work manual with great diagrams easy to follow instructions so glad that I brought this as I was looking at several other books and had read the reviews on this one and it definitely deserves every good review I am definitely not a good bicycle mechanic this is the first time I've ever bought a mountain bike or any bike with disc brakes yet I managed to service my bikes disc brakes using this very good manual it was worth every bit of the money I spent on the book 👍👍 I would highly recommend this book

Probably quite good but way over my head
I am someone who likes riding mountain bikes but who is not very technically minded. For me this book was like reading Greek. I imagine somebody who already knows a lot about bikes would find a lot of useful information but I definitely didn't. I suppose I should have bought something like Bicycle Maintenance for Dummies. After trying to read some of the stuff on adjusting gears etc I gave up and gave the book to my son who knows a lot more about bikes than I do.

This book has been tremendously helpful in servicing my mountain bike and understanding how things work, as well as identifying the tools required. I particularly loved the simple yet clever suggestion of using your quick release to press bearings—it was a game-changer! With the guidance from this book, combined with some YouTube tutorials, my learning journey over the past year has been amazing. I have gained a lot of valuable skills and confidence in bicycle maintenance. I highly recommend this book to anyone looking to service their own bicycles.

I have been doing my own bike maintenance since I was in grade school... I had a different manual a couple decades ago, but I had not ridden in a li'l over a decade and just got a new (ish) bike. I now have things like hydraulic brakes, and dropper posts, so I figured it was time for a new maintenance manual. Zinn was one of the top rated manuals, so I figured I would grab it. WOW... Information overload. I am sure this book tells you almost everything you need to know to be a professional bike mechanic, but it can be a bit hard to find the exact piece of information you need when you need it. I do not feel it is the best organized, but that could just be my logic vs someone else's logic. no two brains work alike and all that. I needed to adjust the derailleur on my mountain bike when I bought it... I ended up going to the internet for the information I needed after finding EVERYTHING about derailleurs EXCEPT what I was looking for. <LOL> I am pretty sure after reading that section of the manual, I could make my own derailleur starting with how to mine the ore I need to make the metal to make a derailleur from scratch :) Seriously though, if you are JUST getting started, or if you have not done your own work in a LONG time <raises hand> this book can be a bit daunting, but it has the information you need... somewhere. My old bike was MUCH easier to maintain than my current one, but my "new" bike was a competition level bike a smidge over a decade ago when it was new... my old one had v-brakes, friction shifting, coil over non-adjustable rear shock... by the standards of when I rode it it was out dated, by todays standards it is seriously primitive. now I have hydraulic disk brakes, dropper post, pneumatic shocks, ratcheting shifter... in all bikes are much more complex than when last I worked on them... It is going to be a learning curve. I personally Recommend this book (or the road bike version if needed as there are separate versions for the different styles of bike) If you want EVERYTHING you could possibly need, consider these three books: Zinn and the art of... (of course I am going to recommend this book even with my comments above about information overload) Bicycling Magazine Complete book of Bicycle Maintenance and Repair (my old book) and Park Tools Big Blue Book (the professionals reference manual)
