Will this product work if I set it up in separate building, connecting to local wifi and then monitor it from my phone on a different network?

Yes. I monitor mine from wherever I am in the world. Once it is on wifi you are set. It uses the excellent Smart Life app plus links to Alexa and others.

I "understand that it is powered by usb" but why does it say "1 aaa battery required" rigth in the part specs. is it a backup? can i use just battery?

Can I use this sensor to switch on and off a kasa smart switch (connected to a heater) via Alexa?

I don't think you can control another heater with this sensor. This heater is controlled by Alexa. Looks very nice on the garage wall.

Es buen producto, pero no funciona con IFTTT

Es buen producto pero a la aplicación de Smart Life le falta la integración de los "Trigger" con IFTTT. No hay para incremento de temperatura o humedad. Si tuviera esto sería un excelente producto a excelente precio.
