Can the 18" width be split into 2 separate 18 foot x 9" widths and still cover 2x6 boards? It seems like it would but what am I missing?

If you're looking to cover two 2x6 boards, you'd be fine with the 18" x 18'. If you cut it at the mid point, you'd get two 18" x 9'. So you'll have enough (16" to wrap around the whole board) + having an additional 2" to play with. But depending on how long your boards are, 9ft may not be long enough. So make sure to check that as well because you only specified 2x6. Hope this helps.
