Beautiful dark, dark brown. Holds lots of layers!
This is actually a luscious reddish black brown. Value2. Maimoufin works very well with soft pastels. It takes a Lot of layers. It does take a couple of layers to start filling up the background surfaced texture, but so does pastelmat. I think it's a great alternative. I would love to know how pastel pencils work on this surface. I may try them out and review how that goes. I wish they carried the blue color for this paper.. seems that color is only avail in expensive boards. Might splurge one day. The Only drawback.. When you don't like a painting, and you wash it off, it does warp and it's difficult to flatten it back out, so they're not as easily renewed. I really like how I can obtain this large sized paper, without the added expense. Really recommend Maimoufin. I don't know that the texture is any different from their older paper. I haven't really noticed that, but have only been using them for six months, or so...

My Favorite Paper for Soft Pastels
This seems to be a lesser-known brand of sanded pastel paper, but I really like it. It's thick and sturdy, takes washes well, and has a good tooth that accepts multiple layers of soft pastels. So far, I've only found it in a grayish brown, and I would be thrilled if it also came in something lighter, like white or cream. I've tried a number of other brands, but this remains my favorite. It's also considerably cheaper than most other brands, so it's a win-win situation for me.

Soft texture, not sanded.
The texture was not as rough as I expected. It was more of a velvet texture rather than sanded. I tried the first sheet and there were slight dents in it making it difficult to get the surface covered. I will need to purchase another brand to get what I want. I can use this package for other projects.

Eats up your supplies ...Edited up to 5 stars after trying again
This paper is great for adding many layers, but be prepared to really use up your pencils. I switched to my less expensive pastel pencils for the base layers, saving my better quality supplies for last layers. You won't have a sharp point for very long, continually sharpen. Tried to erase to adjust the nose length for a portrait, it was a nightmare. Next time, I'll use a 10F pencil for my sketch, so if I have to adjust, it might work better. My mechanical pencil just smeared. There is a major learning curve to use this paper. I've been looking for a paper for portraits that has good tooth for layers, but without a noticeable texture like Canson Mi-Teints paper. Still haven't had my Goldilocks moment. I doubt I'll be buying this again . Update: After the annoyance of not being able to get enough layers on Mi-Teints Pastel paper and fighting the texture, I decided to try this paper again. Yes, it eats up your pencils, but you can layer to your hearts content. I use my less expensive pastel and regular pencils and pan pastels for the first few layers, cheaper to replace, and use my best supplies for the last layers. Also, because erasing is very difficult, I did my preliminary sketch using a 10F pencil. Worked much better. Once you get over the learning curve with this paper, I think you'll love it, too.

Great Paper for Pastel
Great surface for pastel, takes many layers but the dark blue color is too dark. If you hit it with workable fixitive the dark grain comes back up and you'll need a lot of pastel to get it back to what you laid down initially. Great stuff but lighter color is easier to work with.

My Favorite Soft Pastel Paper
I've used just about all of the sanded soft pastel papers. This brand is my absolute favorite. I love it because it has so much tooth. I use many layers, so it's important to have a good paper. I love the size as I can make multiple pictures from just one of the 10 sheets. I highly recommend!

They changed the product!
This was my 5 star preferred paper for pastels. Having tried everything out there, this was my go to surface. This new "manufacturing technique" they are doing is awful. No longer a true sanded surface. It is textured however doesn't hold the pastel well and is just wrong. Says doesn't get hands dusty, this is for pastels, hands get dusty with pastels, it is the nature of the medium. I would prefer they either go back to original product or offer two separate products. I will not be buying this "new" kind again. Truly disappointed.

Es ist sehr grobes Papier, aber für meine Pastellmalerei sehr gut geeignet. Man kann viele Lagen Kreiden auftragen

These are very similar to UART, but they don't curl up. They don't take quite as many layers and they don't like wet underpainting much, but they are very good value.
