Easy to use!
We got this retractable baby gate to put on our back deck. I love how easy it is to install (and remove if needed.) The gate is study and does a great job keeping the little ones away from the stairs.

Good gate with 1 thing I'd change
This gate is a nice way to have a barrier up across a wider space. We specifically got this one because there is no cross bar across the bottom like a standard gate. We wanted our little robot vacuum to be able to get past the gate when it was open. It was easy to install and easy to use. Our dogs and 1 year old can't get past it but our cats have figured out how to slip underneath it. We don't care about that but if you're getting this to stop cats, they'll probably figure it out. My main issue with this gate are the hooks that come with it. They are made of plastic and pretty brittle plastic at that. One of the hooks broke after about a week so we ordered a replacement set and one of those broke after jus a couple of days. We didn't want to keep buying replacements but definitely wanted to keep the gate so it was time for a DIY solution. I ended up with these steel tarp hooks that work great and I don't have to worry about them ever breaking. They don't look that great but this gate is a temporary thing for us anyways. I wish the included hooks were sturdier, otherwise I have no complaints

great gate good for dogs and babies NOT CATS
This gate is solid, sturdy, and works exactly as advertised… just not on my cat. I bought it to keep him out of the kitchen. Instead, it has become a featured obstacle in his daily parkour routine. He scales it effortlessly, pauses at the top to judge me, and then clears it like an Olympic athlete. The gate itself is well built and does its job—unfortunately, my cat has chosen violence and agility. Great product. Useless against a determined feline.

Gap + Ease of Use (Outside, Dogs)
This was a gift I requested for my birthday for the following reason: I have a mostly-fenced yard that doubles as shared parking for me and my neighbors (two homes; four cars). My neighbors have a dog. I have a dog. We agreed that it would be nice to be able to have a fully fenced-in yard for each of our dogs to play in. We also recognized that we'd need to be able to re-open the fence at a moment's notice if one of us needed to get in or out of the parking area. The gap in our yard is at the driveway. This gate is being used outside as a quick and easy way to close the fence off (to make the yard playable for the dogs), and to open easily if someone needs to move their car through the driveway. GAP AT THE BOTTOM: Luckily for us, my dog is giant (110 lbs) and their is medium-large (between 40-60lbs), so the gap on the bottom isn't an issue for our babies. Though they could very well fit through the gap, they'd have to try fairly hard, and there would be PLENTY of time to get them. I couldn't install the piece in the middle that's meant to solve this issue (I'm not qualified to drill into concrete/gravel ground), so I cannot speak on its effectiveness. It might solve that issue, but, if it doesn't: this would NOT prevent small-medium dogs, cats, nor babies / toddlers from crawling underneath. There's plenty of space, and it's fabric (very push-able) EASE OF INSTALLATION: I installed this by myself and had no issues relating to the product (my drill broke, but that's because my drill is old) EASE OF USE: It's SUPER easy to get the gate set up. It's much more difficult to get the gate put away. Setting it up takes less than 30 seconds. Putting it back takes 3+ minutes. When you want to open the gate back up, due to the height of the fabric (a height that's necessary for our dogs), the fabric crumples a bit. It's nearly impossible to keep it completely taught and smooth when you're opening it. The folds in the fabric cause a jam--the fabric gets caught when attempting to roll around the storage pole thing. It's a lot of pulling, re-pulling, re-pulling, and manual-twisting of the pole thing. Even then, it doesn't always go all the way back (sometimes there's a flap of fabric that just refuses to twist back around the pole). STURDINESS / WEATHER: It feels fairly sturdy, and has experienced no visible nor mechanical changes in the 2 months it's been outside (it has experienced a great deal of storms in those 2 months, and still feels and functions the same as when I first installed it). Though this hasn't been tested, I feel certain it would rip, or fall down, or the plastic would break if my dog (the giant one) tried to jump on it. If she put her two front paws on this, I have no doubt I'd be supergluing the plastic clasps back together--and that's only if the fabric doesn't tear. I can't tell if it's a sturdy-enough fabric to not-rip in a situation like that. I get the sense that the plastic clasps are weaker than the fabric, and suspect they'd break before the fabric is damaged, but, again, no clue. WOULD I RECOMMEND? H*ll yes, I recommend this. Even with its quirks and difficult bits, it's absolutely amazing. It's long enough to close our 13ft gap (and you still have fabric left over), it's quick to get down (though not quick to put away), and it's tall enough that our dogs can't get over it (even though some dogs/cats/children could get under it when it doesn't have that middle security piece installed). This changed my life, and my dog's life, for the better. 9/10 recommend (-1 for the difficulty and the gap; +9 for every other aspect)

Absolute Security for Wide Decks!
As the owner of an adventurous dog named Rubi, safety on our large deck has always been a top priority, especially with those stairs leading down. We needed a gate that could handle a massive 85" opening, and this retractable model is the perfect solution—it deserves every one of these five stars. The biggest win is the 85-inch width. It covered our wide gap flawlessly, something standard gates could never do. Installation was straightforward, and the hardware feels rock-solid, even when fully extended. But the real magic is the retractable feature. When it's not in use, it completely disappears, leaving our deck clutter-free and visually open. When it's time to secure the area, the mesh rolls out easily, locks firmly with a single click, and is strong enough to deter Rubi (even when she tries to test it!).

Didn’t work for what we needed.
Why did you pick this product vs others?: This gate was recommended to me by a friend who uses it to block off her kitchen from her dog when she isn’t home. It works great for her. The product was decent but my 4 month old puppy was able to crawl right under it since the bottom is not taught. We had to return ours.
