Review
This book is a treasure trove of artistic skill and inspiration. I really love looking at other artists sketchbooks, finding them more interesting than finished paintings. This book is a delight to look through with literally hundreds of colourful sketches faithfully reproduced. The book showcases talent from around the World, but the one theme that unites all is the passion and love of the simplicity of creating an image based on an individual response to a landscape or building. Each artist gives a brief overview of what inspires them or why they chose to draw a scene, and what I really love is that many of them give an indication of how long each sketch took. I have purchased many books on sketching, but this is by far one of the very best. It is not a 'how to' book, and it won't encourage you to mindlessly daub paint blobs and scribbles in the name of 'self expression' as sadly many books do. However, what this book will do is make you want to pack a sketch kit into your bag and get out an about and look at your environment through an 'artists' eye. It will make you look at things a little differently and through your own personal response record a little bit of your experience to a subject and with any luck you will be hooked. A great book at a great value for money price, enjoy!

Fabulously inspirational!
What a stunning book, and amazing value!! I am quite new to drawing but have always dreamed of being able to sketch the places I visit, as well as my own neighborhood. This glorious book contains 320 pages of inspiration from artists around the world who use pencil, ink or watercolour as their medium, so if, like me, you have a particular preference, there are still endless examples to inspire you to get out there and draw. Although it contains numerous tips from the contributing artists, this is not an instructional manual on how to draw, but is hugely inspirational for anyone who is interested in the subject. The Art of Urban Sketching has already become a true treasure in my personal library and I can't recommend it highly enough!!

Inspirational - a Great buy!
What a great book this is. Not only is it packed with great sketches but it also provides lots of details and tips from sketchers drawing on location around the world. The book follows several sketchers around the world and describes what they love about urban sketching, what’s their preferred style, what materials they like to use, type of sketchbooks, pens and pencils for example. By focusing on the experience of several sketchers, this book by Gabriel Campanario, managed to capture a great number of different sketching styles and preferences thus making it almost unique. I bought a copy over a year ago and keep it on my desk for inspiration and reference. I am happy to recommend this book to anyone who is passionate about sketching, on location or not, and who is looking to either develop or improve their skills.

Great!!
The format and content of this book are spot on. There is so much content it will take quite some time to get through the book if you really look at it, as any artist/sketcher (as I am) will be interested in the Artist profiles and how they produce their work. It's an eye opener too regarding the variety of styles employed - so many differing ways for each individual to capture what is in front of them. It makes you want to pick up your own sketchbook and get out there and do more of your own . Artist's and non Artist's will enjoy the wonderful variety of work on show within the books pages. Recommended.

So much to look at! If you love art, get this book!
I just received this book in the mail this morning and I was amazed how captivating it is to browse through. The diverse range of styles, media and subjects is inspiring! The wide number of different works inside are such that there are some that I dont care for but many that I love! Every page is filled with the sketches of artists around the world, from loose gestural line drawings to finely detailed illustrations. It seems almost every medium is represented (and detailed in boxouts for each artist). I got this book to encourage me to start sketching and it's done exactly that.

Impressive and inspirational
I was encouraged to buy this book after being impressed by seeing a couple of sketchbooks by one of the book's contributors. I have always preferred the spontaneity of quick on the spot sketches and I have not been disappointed by this book: the variety of styles and media used by local sketch artists from various cities around the world, coupled with snippets of personal views of their cities and how they approach what is their passion. Although technically a paperback, the paper and binding are high quality. Overall, for me, an impressive and inspirational book. I am extremely pleased with it.

Nice book with usefull background information
Nice book. Before buying the book, I searched Amazon and the internet to read some reviews and they were all excellent (5-star reviews on Amazon and other sites). The book contains a lot of drawings in different styles, using different techniques and materials. The added value for me is the description of the materials used (type of pens, pencils, brushes,...), the time it took to create the sketches and the background of the artist (architect, illustrator,...). Some sketches look like easy on the flight drawings but if you read it took up to 1 hour to create it, even for experienced sketchers, you understand how much effort it took.
