Anyone know how long the computerized feature lasts?

I really don't know but have never had a computer go in any of my machines.

Does the Singer 9960 come with a carrying case?

Mine didn´t, it just came with a dust jacket. It does have a handle. What I would suggest is getting a scrapbook trolley, it will be cheaper than a case and easier to use. The machine is kind of an odd size, so not sure how much a case would cost. Look for a 40% off coupon at JoAnn´s and use it on a scrapbook trolley, that´s what I did.

does the machine come with a foot control?

Yes it does. I love this machine. Only thing it can't do is sew for me.

I want to sew 2 pieces of polyester strips together that are one sixteenth thick each. I willl be using 14#4 thread. Can this sewing handle this task?

Yes, if you slow slowly, possibly hand-walking between stitches using the hand-wheel. You may have trouble finding a needle to handle such thick thread. I would consider a leather needle.
