Clairol Root Touch-Up Permanent Hair Dye, 4 Dark Brown (Packing May Vary)

This is my go-to for quick root touch-ups. I have dark brown hair and the shade blends really well, covering greys effectively without looking harsh or obvious. What I like most is how easy and fast it is to use. Everything is included in the box (gloves, colourant and developer), you just mix and apply, leave for around 10 minutes, then rinse. It’s very convenient if you don’t want to spend time or money at the salon. A useful tip: I don’t need the full amount each time, so I usually use about half and save the rest for another touch-up a few weeks later. That makes it very good value for money. The only thing to be careful with is application — it can stain surfaces if it drips or touches the sink/shower, so make sure to rinse everything straight away. Otherwise it can be difficult to remove. Overall, very effective, quick, and great value. I keep coming back to it.

This is such a useful product which saves at least 3 salon visits a year. Easy to apply to roots and enough I would say for most hair types.

A handy product to colour roots, I find this is less of a faff than some products. The box includes an instruction leaflet that is sealed with a pair of plastic-type gloves inside. There is no conditioner supplied. The 2 x 15 ml products are numbered: ‘1’ & ‘2’ in the various diagrams and are easy to open. They are relatively easy to mix together with the application brush in the little transparent, plastic-type, oval shaped dish provided and, unexpectedly perhaps, the mixed product is creamy coloured to start with! There doesn't look like there will be enough, either, but there is, I find. I tend to leave on for the extra 5 minutes as advised in the instructions. The result is good and lasts until new growth starts to show. The ingredients are clear, as are the instructions. I tend to wear rubber gloves rather than those supplied, as the colour is hard to remove from hands once developed, I find. I would recommend wiping away any residue around the hairline, back of the neck & ears before the wait time, for the same reason. The brush supplied is a good size and with the relatively thick blended product, little or no mess is created if care is taken, also in my experience. It is relatively easy to rinse away and the overall result is shiny, healthy looking hair, also in my experience. There is a fairly potent odour as you would expect with a product of this kind but not as bad as some. I always open a window before using. [16 images attached]

They really meant it when they said “nice and easy”. Super easy and quick to apply (although I prefer to just use my hands rather than the provided brush). Smells v nice too :)

Fantastic topper - had so many compliments about my hair and nobody knows it's not mine! I don't have thinning hair but I wanted to cover the grey and save me going to the hairdresser every month - this works a treat, in fact I've barely had it off my head. You can't feel it once on and it does not move so it's absolutely brilliant, can't recommend enough.

Although I am about to turn 70, I have only a small amount of grey around my front hairline and my short, fine but abundant hair is a dark blonde. I usually have 3 tones of warm highlights put in during the winter but this year it didn't happen, and the greys at my temples really started to annoy me. £75 to have this dealt with at the hairdresser so I carefully read reviews of this product and applied it, leaving it on for 20 minutes rather than 10 to ensure the greys were blended in. I am truly delighted with the result as there is now no discernible grey at all. The tone is very slightly darker than necessary for me so I will use it for 10 minutes next time. An excellent solution at a great price, but do follow the advice to use old towels and clothing in case of staining. One tip which was helpful from my internet researches....apply lip balm generously on your facial skin along the hairline to avoid skin stains too.

I use this as I’m not grey all over, just a few streaks here, and there, therefore, a full coverage dye doesn’t really look good, and is overkill for my needs. This product is easier, and quicker to apply, doesn’t drip everywhere, and takes less time to set, meaning I can quickly wash it out, and dry my hair. I hate faffing, and this is a quick fix product for me, but because it’s meant for roots, I suppose the downside is that the dye isn’t as long lasting as others can be. Also, I think I might have issues as I often have to use 2 of these, as my hair is long, and thick. If yours is the same, be warned. You don’t have to wash your hair before you use this, but I have found that doing this has better results (the dye lasts a little longer). I can also leave this product on for 20 minutes, and I have no issues with reactions, burning, or whatever else. As I’ve mentioned, my hair is thick, it’s curly too, and there are some dyes which my hair just won’t take with, IE, the grey streaks remain grey. I’ve found leaving dyes on longer works a little better. I think if you have finer, or shorter hair this will be a good product, but with my hair type, it’s stubborn to dye, and doesn’t like holding onto the dye either!!!
