This case is the quality one you're looking for
Most of these cases are pretty low quality. I bought a bunch with the thought of keeping the best and returning the others. And this one won by a a lot. It's much more substantial that the others, without being bulky, plenty of heat sinking capability. The materials and workmanship is on point. And even the led light is high quality and placed well. Not like some of the others with their little point lights or little holes to see the led through. The USB cable is also thicker than the others, and this played a role in what speeds each one supported. While some of the others also had high speeds, this one was more consistent across all my testing, and compatibility. I used a MacBook Air M1 and a Dell Precision 5520. The MacBook had no issues with any of them, just small speed differences. The Dell though, man what are they doing, some of them didn't even mount! Compatibility was a nightmare. And sometimes they'd connect and then disconnect a short while later. This one was the most reliable with that pesky Dell. (I put most of the blame with Dell, and some on Microsoft) The speeds will depend on 1) Your SSD and 2) the negotiated connection speed. I was testing with a Crucial P1 Plus, so SSD speed was NOT the limiting factor. lol. If you can connect with thunderbolt speeds, you're getting 2-3gigs/second, less with USB3, and much much less with USB2. BUT, you may want to connect with USB3 if you'll leave this plugged in long term (or any thunderbolt device for that matter). As when you're running thunderbolt, not only will the device get hot to the touch (but not burning, these things can operate at pretty elevated temperatures), but so will the controller on the laptop! And that's with no transfers even. This was worse for the Dell than the Macbook, but both heated up. Not great for long term use plugged in. Since it takes like 30 min to heat up, it's not even noticeable if you're just transferring files real quick. And this thing is REAL quick at 3 gigs/second. lol The heating was only warm to touch with USB 3 negotiated connections. This is not a flaw with this device, as all the devices I tested had the same pattern. So for long term plugged in, use USB 3. Still pretty fast, but much cooler temps. Also, even the packaging was high quality. Probably overkill, but nice touch.

Great Build quality and great speeds! Perfect for my Mac Mini
I had returned a previous Thunderbolt enclosure because 1. the build quality was awful and it had like 5 little screws and 2. I was not getting the read and write speeds I needed for the work I do. You can see in the photo the amazing speed I get on this little guy. Plus I did not think it would be built so sturdy but it is made from a nicely heavy aluminum and swapping out SSDs is easy! The enclosure has decent heat distribution, however, I would not put on the rubber case it comes with while in use because it can make it hold heat for longer. I do use the case on it when I'm traveling with it for some extra protection. How I have it set up: Inside is a Samsung 970 Evo Plus 1TB and it is connected to the back thunderbolt port of my Apple Mac Mini M2.

Fast and tooless but VERY heavy and not the easiest to swap drives
This is well made. It is FAST and detects usb2,3 and 4 connections along with thunderbolt. I purchased it because occasionally I need to swap drives and wanted a case that will work with usb and thunderbolt/USB4. This one does. The performance of the case is flawless. The heavy case dissipates heat well. Every time I change the drive i have to pop out the little grummet and over time I don't know how this will hold up. It comes with a bright orange condom which is great because if you drop it, something could break and the orange makes it easy to find but it can be a pain to get on and off. This is the heaviest case I have ever seen which is good and bad. Great for heat dispersion but not very portable Overall a good enclosure for the $.

Worth the Money for Awesome Performance
I have a ThinkPad P1 Workstation with i9 processor 96GB RAM, NVidia 16GB using Photoshop and Premiere Pro. My read/write demands are heavy. When I upgraded from a 1TB SSD to a 4TB external SSD, I ran into overheating, disconnecting/reconnecting, and other issues. In the picture attached you will see two other highly recommended brands for USB-C. They both had problems (a third unit, not pictured, was so bad i trashed it). So I spent the $90 on this thing figuring to return it if I didn't like it. First test: copy 30GB file back and forth. I was blown away. Three times the speed, no heating problems. I then tested it by encoding a 15GB video that recently choked my old system. No problems at all. I highly recommend this unit for any power users. It truly rocks. One note: It's a lot bigger and heavier than I expected, but that's FINE because it works great. Also: the box it comes in is worth the price of admission. I hate that I'm going to toss it. Peace, Andrew

DOA. Known good Sabrent NVME, drive never shows up in NewQ enclosure
The Good: The LED blinks. Cute shipping box, user hostile closure. Lift the round logo up to open the box. I almost went at it with a utility knife but thought ... I may have to return it. The Bad: Drive never appears in Win 10 or Win 11. Tried several high end TB4 cables in addition to the included cable. Moved the 2 TB NVME back to other enclosures, all good. Very heavy... not for the gram-conscious road warrior. Why insulate the enclosure with a bright orange silicone jacket? Because the enclosure gets really hot? Gets less hot without the jacket. YMMV. The Worst: Looking for the rubber clasp (that holds the M.2 SSD in place) after the clasp flew across the room. Makes the pivoted metal clasp in the Sabrent enclosure worth its weight in ... aluminium (UK).

I echo another reviewer who said "this is the one!"
Admittedly, I am not moving tons of data. I do casual video editing at 4K resolution, and backup a lot of small media assets. This thing FLIIES! I'm able to keep sustained read and write speeds above 3,000MB/s with a Samsung 990 Evo Plus. It does get warm, but never too uncomfortable to touch. Despite being tool-free, it feels very sturdy and well built. Almost forgot, the included cable is very high quality too!

The speed is super high! It says it right on the box! Nice design, easy to install SSD. I don't have a Gen 4x4 NVME SSD, the following speed results are with a 2TB Samsung 970 EVO Plus. On my PC (13thG i7) plugged in to the TB4 port W:580MB/s R:2600MB/s (odd there is a warning on connection: USB device functionality might be limited) the device does not appear in the Thunderbolt control centre. On my PC Gen3.2 2x2 port W&R: 1719MB/s On my MBP M1 Pro W:1300MB/s R:3000MB/s With a Lexar NM790 2TB MBP M1 Pro W: 2953 R: 3084 (APFS) Ok, but well shy of what this SSD is capable of, so I've knocked off 2 stars. Comes with one thermal pad and a short USB4 rated cable. It's also fairly solid and hefty in the had, it weights 260g.
