## Questions & Answers

**Q: Can this item be used to lay laminate over an uneven transition between rooms?**
A: If you want your laminate to wear evenly across that transition, use self leveling compound to float out the gap over a longer span. Because laminate doesn’t have the ability to flex, over time the edges will wear & chip and will ultimately reveal the unevenness hidden underneath.

**Q: What material are these made of?**
A: The carpet shims are made of 3 layers of balsa or other soft wood that has been glued together to make it 1/4" thick.  It is sanded/shaved one end to make it like any other kind of shim you would buy in a store that sells carpentry products.  It has markings every inch the full length of the shim.
It ended up not being used by the guys working on my house, so don't know how effective it would be.  Didn't return it because it wasn't worth it.  I'll find some use for it eventually.
