An exquisite historical document - both film & text
This is a well crafted historical document, weaving together the intricacies of the political and religious context that gave birth to the King James's Bible. And like John Rhys-Davies says we all have a copy somewhere under our own roofs.'KJB - The Book That Changed The World' provides a majestic journey through the corridors and rooms once traversed by the very characters that shaped the culture and society, both in Scotland and England, of the late 16th and early 17th centuries. The cinematography is spell-bounding, meticulously woven together in editing to highlight the finely detailed script, presented by John Rhys-Davies. The storytelling pulls together, seamlessly, the dramatic moments of reconstruction, with academic insight from contemporary scholars. For those fascinated by costumes from late Elizabethan, Jacobean and Stuart Periods, this will be a feast. A highly commended feature length documentary and reconstructions by producer and director, Norman Stone. It is great to see a film present a well-balance account of the spiritual developments of England and Scotland through the events that led to the Authorised English translation of the Holy Bible.

mis-titled and lacks balance
There are points here regarding King James and the history of England at the time however I feel the DVD is mis-titled.It focuses hugely on KIng James. I would have loved to have known more about why it is considered such a fantastic translation. What where the less accurate/powerful translations like in comparison? Only one example is givenMoreover the narrator's description of the Gunpowder Plot is exremely unbalanced. Fawkes is presented as a mercenary with a strongly Doncaster/Yorkshire accent. But it may be hewas a passionate man of faith as well as of arms. And that he was Spanish:'Guido'. I found Channel 4s recent programme Gunpowder Treason and Plot to be far more nuanced on this topic. This KJB dvd fails to detail how Catholics were being penalised, persecuted and driven to contemplate such actions to attain their freedom. I believe I recall at one point in the channel 4 documentary it recounts how King James promises to meet them to sympathetically address their concerns but does not turn up and they are slaughtered instead.I am not a historian so this anomoly makes me question what else in this documentary is unbalanced.

Go watch
If, like most households in the UK you either possess a copy of the Bible, or have access to one, then take it down, dust it off and cherish the history and struggles that brought it to you. This DVD charts the germination of the commission to produce a once-and-for-all translation of the scriptures into English by James 1st. It portrays the king in a favourable light, despite the many enemies his outspokeness made. His lonely childhood and strong minded tutor, bringing to the throne a man who managed to weld the rival protestant factions into a team who would bring into light something truly wonderful, the word of God in English - and what English!John Rhys Davies presents the whole drama-documentary with conviction and enthusiasm.Negative point: In spite of his massive earlier input into the text, William Tyndale gets no mention.Apart from that, a wonderful resource in this hope-starved world, that mircales can and do happen.Watch the DVD, then read the book.

... that no matter who we are or think how great we are when you look at this DVD it ...
This DVD indicates that no matter who we are or think how great we are when you look at this DVD it will put into perspective of how humble King James was. All of his relatives had great monuments built and displayed in their honor but there was only a small plaque to show where King James was buried down in the basement. It was asked where is his legacy? If you have a Bible then you are displaying his legacy, it is displayed in every household that has a Bible. Only one other King has that honor. Only of course "The King Of Kings and Lord Of Lords"This should be in every home and church library
