This stuff is not inexpensive but it a sanity saver if you have dogs that kill everything green as though it is their mission in life. Turfing my entire back yard with it cost thousands of dollars but it just works. It is high quality and stands up to 2 English Mastiff's and a German Shepherd daily. No adverse smells and the dogs have no issue walking and running on it. When you put it down you can obviously tell it is not natural grass but the look is much better than mud everywhere. Update - Grass is looking good. One thing I noticed is that grass germinates very quickly under these mats. JG Dense Shade grass was growing actively in 8 to 10 days. I would imagine it is due to the moisture retention the holes provide. See the last 2 pictures after 2 months. Could not be happier. Compared to putting down hundreds of dollars in seed just to watch it die or wash away twice a year it pays for itself. I have seeded under and over it and the it protects the roots while the plants get established. Seedlings stay in place and it controls erosion nicely. Grass does in fact grow through it nicely. Wish I would have found this years ago. The one critique I have for Grassworks is that local pickup would be nice for those of us in St Louis. (The manufacturer is 10 miles from my home) $50 to ship a 3 foot by 25 foot roll via UPS adds to the cost significantly when you are buying 20 rolls to complete a large project. I was told that local pickup is not an option but the product itself is fantastic.

This has been the only product that has worked so far and doing what it advertised. I have tried to grow grass, sod and other landscaping for my back yard with my 4 large dogs and with their activity, always worn down and left with dirt. With this turf on top, the mud does not get dragged into my home and is helps support the new grass to grab onto something and grow on its own. Its more that I expected to pay but well worth it in the long run. they are hear to stay!

Easy to apply to bald spots. Looks real until you get right on top of it,I use it in high traffic areas where seed just somehow doesnt seem to grow. Be careful initially when mowing around it, but after a few weeks it levels down and you could mow over it. Comes with stakes so nail it down

Works really well. Have 2 grown labs and they tended to kill our grass at the end of the patio where they would constantly run. Especially during the winter, we would have to put down straw to keep them from tracking mud in. This was fixed that. Easy to put out and stake down. Grass grows right through it. Stake are pretty durable. Only things that are down sides are the price, it is not cheap, but I think it is worth it and it tends to take more than you think to cover a large area.

I have 3 dogs, and a large backyard, I bought this to put in the high traffic areas to eliminate mud. I doesn’t hold up as well as I thought it would. It crumbles fast, therefore it doesn’t stay staked in the ground. I rake over top of it and it falls apart. Haven’t even had it installed one season and it already needs replaced. I would return if I could, unfortunately it’s not worth the price.

This is amazing!! Super light and easy to install. It works great to capture mud and dirt while waiting for the grass to grow. I have an electric push mower, and I am able to mow over it with no issues even on the lowest setting. I have also hit it with the mower, and it just chops it up. It works better than I thought. Worth the price.

The "grass" on this product is HARD plastic blades. Bought this tiny piece to test if it would actually save my yard from chickens, foot and dog traffic, and keep the mud off all of us. Before buying any bigger pieces since it's so expensive. Although it would take a spring-summer season to see if it grew the grass underneath, I can tell the dog would NOT want to walk on it. Chickens either. Or me barefoot. Maybe that's what I'm after in some areas, but not how it's sold. Does, however make a great mud mat on the porch, with the hard plastic blades and easy to rinse out holes.

Why did you pick this product vs others?: Works amazingly! No more mud! Grass filled in quickly, it's soft and you don't even notice it. Dogs were able to run over it and it still filled in our empty spot after concrete work. Will be purchasing more for some problem areas.

This product was amazing. I have two labs and they tear up our yard, placing this product down and having the grass grow through has help keep a lawn from being destroyed. The only thing is if you do aerate your lawn you will not be able to do this with this product down. Expensive but worth it to have a lawn again!

It is just as it says but I find it very expensive for what it is.
