Alfie Gets in First

I bought this book as my three year old daughter loves to race ahead to get into any room / up the stairs before us. She understood straight away why I bought it! The illustrations are beautiful of course, and it really is a timeless story. Shirley really understood families and how children behave in a way that will make these classics forever.

A little story beginning middle end - a pleasure for adults to read to little people ! A story about coping, overcoming and being brave after a mistake . Part of v early childhood learning how to navigate the basics of life - but beautifully simply done … And the Illustrations are so detailed - they tell the story themselves.. My grandson (3 plus) loved it - so him! Rushing into everything and then the consequences ! But all works out so well in the end - of course ! :)

This book was bought as a present for a boy named Alfie, we bought this book as it is my daughter's favourite Alfie story and she felt that her friend Alfie would like an Alfie book for his birthday and as this one is her favourite it should be his!!! In this story Alfie runs ahead of his mother and baby sister enjoying being first home, he enters the house while his mother goes back to bring his sister in then Alfie closes the front door. The story is then all about Alfie's friends; neighbours, milkman and window cleaner all helping his mother join Alfie in the house. This book needs to be read by both the words and pictures as the pictures show you what Alfie is doing while the writing is telling the other side of the story. This means that your child can predict what is going to happen next, from the picture clues. We would recommend Alfie stories to anyone.

My children loved this, and now my grandson does too. The rhythm of the prose is a pleasure to read out loud, and the illustrations are so detailed, there's so much more to talk about. Literally Wonderful.

Obwohl mein Sohn kaum Englisch kann mit seinen fünf Jahren, liebt er das Buch. Die Geschichte ist rührend erzählt und die Zeichnungen sind mit Liebe zum Detail ausgearbeitet.

絵を見ただけで、話の内容が分かるのが優れた絵本（だと思う）。絵本なのだから当たり前のようだけど、コレが探してもなかなかみつからないのよね。 文章が比較的長いので、読み聞かせるために少し練習をする必要があるかも（テープつきがオススメ）。 話の内容は、ドアに鍵がかかっちゃって、外で呼び掛ける大人たちも小さなAlfieも鍵を開けられない。さあどうやって切りぬけるか･･･。小さな子供にありがちなシチュエーション。おそらく2-3才の子供はAlfieになりきって話を聴くと思う。 長く楽しめる本もモチロンよい。でも、その時期にしか感じられない本もある。2-3才のお子さんには「今が旬」の本ですよー！

A family favorite book..adorable story from a child’s point of view, and beautiful illustrations. Endearing, familiar characters who reappear in different stories. Wonderful to read aloud.

Alfie stories are the loveliest stories about everyday life. I loved these books when I was a child and now my children are delighting in them as well.

The book has caught my three year old son's imagination. He keeps pulling this out from our book collection and have it read to him very often. My son likes the detailed illustration and has noticed minute things like a cat running away during the pandemonium. He likes how Alfie opened the door using a chair. The story line is interesting and the matching illustration makes it perfect company for children. Highly recommended.
