In Pawnee, Leslie Knope (as played by Amy Poehler on NBC's hit show Parks and Recreation ) takes readers on a hilarious tour through her hometown, the Midwestern haven known as Pawnee, Indiana. Welcome to Pawnee: more Exciting than New York, more glamorous than Hollywood, roughly the same size as Bismarck, North Dakota. The book chronicles the city's colorful citizens and hopping nightlife, and also explores some of the most hilarious events from its crazy history—like the time the whole town was on fire, its ongoing raccoon infestation, and the cult that took over in the 1970s. Packed with laugh-out-loud-funny photographs, illustrations, and commentary by the other inhabitants of Pawnee, it's a must-read that will make you enjoy every moment of your stay in the Greatest Town in America, and the perfect gift for fans of Parks and Recreation . Review: Hilarious!! - If you're a fan of Parks and Recreation, this book will have you laughing out loud in the wee hours of the night while your significant other elbows you in anger. It's full of hilarious factoids about the fictional town, ranging from Pawnee's sordid history with the local indigenous peoples to its flirtation with a doomsday cult in the early 1970's. A lot of the stuff in this book actually serves as a sort of introduction to aspects of this season of the show. Eg; The aforementioned "Reasonableist" cult featured in this past week's episode are covered in detail in the book, with the story of their meteoric (and drug-fueled) rise and fall, as well as "sample chapters" of Reasonableist texts and documents. It's a nifty and clever tie-in that no fan of the series should be without! Review: JUST AS AMAZING AS THE SERIES ITSELF!!! - I 'LITERALLY' screamed when I got this in the mail!!! I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS BOOK EXISTS!!! I have not read it yet, although I plan to soon! From flipping through the pages, it is very informative and has literally everything that has been described or shown in the show!! I love this so so so so much!! Parks and Recreation will always hold a special place in my heart!!! Yes, this book is right next to the DVD collection I have hehehe

Joan Callamazzo book club approved!
This book is chock full of the same amount of humor and heart and inside jokes and craziness as the show. Pawnee, IN is clearly the best fictional small town since Stars Hollow, CT. Actually, it's even better. Pawnee wins with the Reasonableists, the glorious rubber nipple factory, and the corporate giant Sweetums which helps makes Pawnee fourth in obesity. The book is hilariously in character, and my only complaint is that I wish it were a little longer (there was not nearly enough Turd Crapley...I mean, Perd Hapley). If you're a fan of the show Parks & Recreation, this book is a must-have and a must-read. If you like this book and haven't watched the show, WATCH THE SHOW. If you don't like this book and don't watch this show....then I feel sorry for how sad your life is. I love you, Leslie Knope. That Ben Wyatt is a lucky, lucky man!
Pawnee: The Greatest Town in America is the perfect compliment to Parks and Recreation, which is saying a lot since I feel Parks and Rec is one of the greatest shows in recent history. Written in the same style as the show, featuring guest segments by each member of the wonderful Pawnee Parks Department. If only local government everywhere could be filled with people like Leslie Knope and her team. This has to be the best television tie-in I've ever read since Supernatural's John Winchester's Journal. In-show, Leslie wrote this book due to her love for her hometown of Pawnee, Indiana, "warts and all." And seeing her dedication to the quirky history of this town, along with her remarkable accuracy (which she brags about several times). Reading this, I really started to miss Parks and Recreation. Might be time for a rewatch of the entire series. Might be past time...

If youlike P&R, get this book.
Such a funny book to go along with the show. I enjoyed the Additional Acknowledgements at the end of book. Thanking Harry Wittels, Chelsea P. Veretti, & others. Names slightly changed, Harris Wittels & Chelsea Peretti. Basically thanking the writers of P&R.

LOVE IT!
This was the perfect addition to my “Parks and Recreation” themed gift to my sister! We are huge Parks and Rec fans, so when I found this book I was super excited. When it arrived, I was more than pleased. I actually read the whole book before gifting it to her. I was pleasantly surprised when I saw the amount of detail put into the book. I even found myself laughing while reading through the various articles, advertisements, etc. I couldn’t be happier with my purchase.

Wonderful Satire
A really fun read in the vein of The Daily Show/Colbert Report mocumentary "text"books. The writing is entertaining and nails the characters. You could tell which character wrote each piece without looking at the byline. Clever essays, clever ads, uncountable references back to every detail of the show. Not the funniest thing I ever read, but up there. Mad magazine for grown-ups. You'll believe the town of Pawnee exists in more than Leslie Knope's mind. I especially enjoyed the bitter chapter on Eagleton. One complaint: I like to keep books like this in pristine condition, but the book itself is printed on recycled matte stock, not the traditional high-quality glossy paper of similar books, so the photographs don't have the best quality, and the paper just sucks up the moisture. I left this book in a room with an open window on a day with slightly high humidity and the cover curled up and the pages are all slightly warped.

My favorite was Jean Ralphio's reviews of the bars in Pawnee
I bought this book last-minute for my Leslie Knope cosplay for Comic Con, and expected it to be more of a prop than an actual book. I was pleasantly surprised when I opened it to discover that it's a full length book w/ little blurbs written in character by Leslie and other characters from the show! My favorite was Jean Ralphio's reviews of the bars in Pawnee, and his various ratings of Simantha. This reminded me a lot of companion books typically written for sci fi/fantasy book series, shows and movies. A little corny, super cute, a fun read!

Leslie Knope
Pawnee, Leslie Knope's hometown and the setting for Parks and Recreation was immortalized in the show and in real life with her book Pawnee: The Greatest Town in America. I have to say I'm a little disappointed with the book. This is one of those books where it would be better in audio book or acted out if the actors reprised their roles. The lines are there and I can hear their voices in my head, but it's missing the magic the actors bring to the lines. All the main characters in the series wrote entries in the book. The lines are well written and it's easy to hear the characters voice in them. description The book also includes awesome entries directly from the show like The Swanson Pyramid of Greatness where anyone can easily read Ron's wisdom. Pawnee: The Greatest Town in America is a fun read for any fan of Parks and Recreation.

An excellent supplement for fans!
Some books which companion TV series really just phone it in, shamelessly capitalise on the existing fame and don't have even a scrap or new or original content (the 'How to Archer' book by 'Sterling Archer', I'm looking right at you!). But this book has a heap of new and unique content which supplements and builds upon the show. You can really tell it was written by people involved with and passionate about the series, and it really feels like a genuine item from within the immersive world of Parks and Recreation.
