The Merchant of Venice (Dover Thrift Editions: Plays)

In high school, I loved this play because of the endearing relationship between Portia and Nerissa. In college, I loved the play because of Portia’s acerbic dismissal of her suitors (I think I had dated all of them.)Now, much later in life, I fear that the world has changed so little: the racism and materialism demonstrated in the play are with us still. This play does not preach; it explores, and we join the master in this exploration.

Exactly what I needed! The book arrived on time, even earlier than expected. It was well packed, so it came intact.

Arrived quickly and in great condition. This play is probably my favorite my Shakespeare. It is so relevant during the time we live in today.

For the Dover thrift edition you're getting the text and nothing else, which is great for reading and performing but for study you'll want an edition with notes. The paper's thin and the text fairly small and, as will all Dover thrift editions, if feels fairly cheap; however I have owned a few Dover thrift books for a couple of years and, without treating them with any particular care, they're just as sturdy as they've always been. If you don't mind reading plays on the Kindle then you can download this for free; if, however, you prefer to have a physical copy or you don't own a Kindle then for £1.50 you're getting the bare minimum which, for me at least, is all I was looking for.

This book is missing line numbers and a number of scenes were missing. We had to buy a different copy. Very unimpressed.
