Without piling my capsules in a compartment I can't be spot-on accurate, but at least 12 (possibly more) - depends on the size of the capsule, obviously!

No. Sun to Sat written on side of section you pull out.

Can it be stored upright (standing)?

You could & your tablets wouldn’t fall out but it’s not designed for that. It’s secure and if you packed it or stored it standing wouldn’t damage it but I use it horizontally.
