Review: This Thing Surprised Me In the Best Way Possible - I picked up this Retekess TR629 expecting “pretty good.” What I got was a straight-up workhorse. The reception on this thing is ridiculous. MW, FM, SW it doesn’t matter. I’m pulling in channels loud and clean, including shortwave stations I’ve never been able to catch on any of my other radios. I’ve got a whole lineup now that I didn’t even know existed. The interface is simple and actually pleasant to use. Big display, clear buttons, and a tuning knob that feels solid instead of cheap and loose like a lot of radios in this price range. It scans quickly, it saves channels easily, and switching between bands is instant. There’s no learning curve with this one you pick it up and you’re off. The speaker surprised me the most. Even at low volume this thing kicks. Bright, full and way louder than I expected. I almost wish it had a half-volume setting because the quietest notch is still punching. Definitely not a bad problem to have. The build quality is solid. Nice weight, strong handle, good antenna, and nothing feels flimsy. It feels like something that’s going to survive road trips, garages, and late-night shortwave hunts. The backlight is clean and easy on the eyes and the battery indicator actually works, which is rare in radios at this price. I picked this up to replace an old radio that struggled with AM and shortwave and I ended up getting something way better. I’m already hearing stations from across the world that my other radios never touched. This thing is going to live at work with me and it’s absolutely earning its spot. If you want a radio that punches way above its price tag, pulls in stations like it’s showing off, and is just flat out fun to use, this one’s it. I’m genuinely impressed. ## Features - Digital radio AM FM; support automatic/manual search for radio stations; manual storage of radio stations; in radio mode; long press the record/store button; the station number flashes; press the previous/next programming station number; and short press the record/store button again to save - Portable shortwave radio; FM (76-108MHz); AM (522-1620KHz); shortwave (2.3-21.19MHz); this short wave radio has excellent sensitivity and wider frequency range; DSP chip and long antenna provide more stable radio signal; easy to listen to news/music/sports stations - Radio recorder; use the TR629 Portable Radio to record your favorite radio shows or talk shows or sports event commentary to USB; avoid missing some news or events; play recorded stations anytime at your leisure - Clock alarm clock sleep timing snooze function; support 12/24 hours switching; multiple modes to ensure your sleep time, if you don't want to get up when the alarm clock rings; press any button, you can also enter the snooze state for 5 minutes - LCD backlit display; don't worry about difficult to read when listening to the station at night; backlit display makes it easy to operate in the dark; this portable radios features a large, easy-to-read digital display; allows you to clearly see each key and radio station ## Technical Specifications | Specification | Value | |---------------|-------| | ASIN | B0BQJ8JJKZ | | Additional Features | 3.5 mm external antenna jack, 3.5mm headphone jack, Bevel dial | | Antenna Location | Music, News, Sports Broadcast, talk show | | Best Sellers Rank | #97,201 in Electronics ( See Top 100 in Electronics ) #186 in Portable AM/FM Radios | | Brand | Retekess | | Built-In Media | 1 x Manual, 1 x Retekess TR633 Radio, Power Adapter | | Color | black | | Colour | black | | Compatible Devices | Headphone | | Connectivity Technology | Auxiliary | | Connectivity technology | Auxiliary | | Customer Reviews | 4.2 out of 5 stars 382 Reviews | | Display Technology | LED | | Display Type | LED | | Enclosure Material | Plastic | | Frequency | 108 MHz | | Hardware Interface | 3.5mm Audio | | Item Dimensions L x W x H | 21.5L x 6.7W x 14H centimeters | | Item Type Name | Radio | | Item Weight | 998 g | | Manufacturer | Retekess | | Mfr Part Number | FF9268A | | Model Number | TR633 | | Number of Batteries | 4 AA batteries required. | | Number of Items | 1 | | Power Source | Corded Electric/Battery powered | | Product dimensions | 21.5L x 6.7W x 14H centimeters | | Radio Bands Supported | 2-Band | | Special features | 3.5 mm external antenna jack, 3.5mm headphone jack, Bevel dial | | Style Name | TR633 | | Tuner Type | AM, FM | | Tuner technology | AM , FM | | Unit Count | 1 Count | ## Product Details - **Brand:** Retekess - **Colour:** Black - **Connectivity technology:** USB - **Product dimensions:** 20.6L x 6.1W x 13H centimeters ## Images ![Retekess TR629 Portable Shortwave Radios, Digital Radio AM FM Plug in with DSP, Support Backlight LCD Display, Digital Tuning and Preset, USB, Micro SD, Clock, Recorder - Image 1](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/716yJkc7+TL.jpg) ![Retekess TR629 Portable Shortwave Radios, Digital Radio AM FM Plug in with DSP, Support Backlight LCD Display, Digital Tuning and Preset, USB, Micro SD, Clock, Recorder - Image 2](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/71NCtZLSD9L.jpg) ![Retekess TR629 Portable Shortwave Radios, Digital Radio AM FM Plug in with DSP, Support Backlight LCD Display, Digital Tuning and Preset, USB, Micro SD, Clock, Recorder - Image 3](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/71J3DKbS2qL.jpg) ![Retekess TR629 Portable Shortwave Radios, Digital Radio AM FM Plug in with DSP, Support Backlight LCD Display, Digital Tuning and Preset, USB, Micro SD, Clock, Recorder - Image 4](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/71IQeg0qpgL.jpg) ![Retekess TR629 Portable Shortwave Radios, Digital Radio AM FM Plug in with DSP, Support Backlight LCD Display, Digital Tuning and Preset, USB, Micro SD, Clock, Recorder - Image 5](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/81ocFkTyDrL.jpg) ## Available Options This product comes in different **Model** options. ## Questions & Answers **Q: Does it require any setup or tuning for optimal AM reception?** A: TR633 has an external AM antenna interface, which can enhance signal reception through an external antenna, especially in rural areas.
