Manners and Customs of the Bible

this book covers the manners and customs of the bible and it helps you understand why they did the things they did. In Sunday school or in church or at bible study or during your reading you read something and ask why did they do that. this book goes by each book of the bible and some customs and manners in a certain book and what it meant in that particular verse or book. a title like forbidden food. drink offering. the sabbatical year. the year of Jubilee. then under each title, it explains what it means at that certain time. it is really interesting and gives an understanding of why they did it that way.

This is a great book. Very well written and very very informative. It clears up a lot of misconceptions that happen when you don't know the culture or customs of the times the bible was written in. Awesome book. I would highly recommend it.

We've owned this book since 1972, when it first came out. It fell apart and we taped it together. It was long overdue to purchase a new one. This book is very informative and accurate. I say that because the author, James M. Freeman, quotes other Bible scholars and archaeologists to support his conclusions and theories on almost every Scripture that he examines. It is an excellent Bible Study help and I highly recommend it for anyone who wishes to learn the customs of the times of how the people back then lived...and what was required of them on how they should conduct themselves before God. It also helps to explain obscure meanings of their customs and mannerisms--things that we today are not familiar with.

Simple, but a good start to understanding the cultures, customs, and idioms of a particular era and people. An essential beginning to better understand the Bible.

It is an excellent reference book for study. My copy is used with not much highlighting. I only found one highlight but did not look thru the entire book. Book is in good to very good shape to me.

I purchased this in 2012 as an extra book for my library in addition to my textbook for class so that I can learn as much as possible from different perspectives and authors about customs and manners. Extremely important in biblical interpretation. This book has really good up-to-date modern information

The New Manners and Customs of the Bible allows the reader to receive additional history, interpretation, and background to the events leading to the writing of scripture. With the revelation of the binary truths only found in the Word of God this book coincides with the historical perspective to why and how certain scriptures took on the basis of Christians stance of belief. I highly recommend this as a must read for all believers who desire a closer walk with Christ.
