What if the witch gave Merida a different spell? This New York Times best-selling series twists Disney-Pixar's Brave into a fast-paced story in which Merida is sent back in time. If you could change your fate, would you? Merida understands that as princess of Clan DunBroch, she has certain obligations--but that doesn't mean she has to like it. Especially when one of those obligations means losing her freedom by becoming betrothed to a man she has never met. Merida balks at this tradition, but her mother Queen Elinor insists that Merida must do this to embrace her role as future queen. Determined to chart her own path, Merida follows magical wisps to a witch's cottage, where she is given a magic pastry and promised it will incite "a great transformation" in her mother. But instead of feeding Elinor the pastry, Merida eats it herself. Merida awakens in the past, a now-teenage Elinor holding a knife to her throat and accusing her of espionage. She's been transported to a time when the Clans MacCameron and DunBroch are bitter enemies. And it just so happens that the timing of Merida's arrival has kept Elinor and Fergus from meeting. Will Merida be able to bridge the rival clans, help her parents fall in love, and change her own fate? Review: Amazing - I have loved the Disney Twisted Tales and Disney Villains series but have to say I was so excited to learn Merida was getting her own tale. I really love Brave and feel she’s often overlooked for the other princesses but I digress. It is safe to say that Rochon did not disappoint with her Twisted Tale. It’s almost like a magical Back to the Future where Merida gets to see her parents when younger and learn more about her clan history. It’s so good. As someone who loves Celtic lore, Disney and magical/sci-fi this was right up my street. I don’t want to spoil too much but I have to say it might well be my favourite. I loved how Rochon combined the history, myth and of course twisted the story of Brave. Merida’s character was so true to the movie but so were Elinor and Fergus and the host of other characters yet their characters were expanded on as well. All in all this was perfect. Review: Poor printing - The book is great, a lovely twist to the original Brave story, but the book is let down physically by the poor printing quality with all the pages looking dirty from the ink, some pages worse than others.

Great books!!!
I’m obsessed with this series of books! Although they are written by a variety of authors, they each have a great Disney story behind them! This book is great and I’ve read it a few times-once by myself and once with my 11 year old daughter. It’s so much fun to think of the alternative story line if things had been different for each character!

Fun twist
Another fun edition to the twisted tales series. Really enjoyed this twist of the original story from the movie Brave. In this version, Merida takes the spell meant for her mum and ends up transported back in time to when her parents first met. I loved getting to explore the history of Elinor and Fergus, and the clan of DunBroch. Having collected the series so far, I would like to advise for anyone concerned about the print quality of these books, that the darkened pages are a deliberate design choice and not a printer fault (This did surprise me when I first started reading these books).

Great take on the Brave characters!
As a mother of 3 teens I rarely read books, let alone fiction just for me. I devoured this book (helped that I had a few plane rides recently) and loved it all. I have been a big fan of Brave for a long time and this book combined that story with another story I loved growing up (won't give spoilers). If you like a good read that will just be a joy to read and not too heavy in any way, I highly recommend this one!
