My family and I have been avoiding processed sugar, but we do sometimes crave something sweet. These dates are absolutely delicious! We eat them right out of the bag. Most are plump and moist, but a few in each bag are a bit dry and hard, as other reviewers have mentioned. That's why I have 4 stars instead of 5. Still a great snack or healthy dessert, and a great value for the five pack here on Amazon.

Being in separate packs is just right for recipes using 8 onces per recipe.

After reading some of the somewhat negative reviews here I have to disagree. I realize everyone tastes things a little differently and what's tasty to me might not be to someone else. I thought these dates were absolutely delicious. I've eaten many fresh dates when I worked for several years in the Middle East and these are as good as any I've ever tried. For them to have been prepackaged I didn't think that was too bad. These Sun Maid Dates are moist but not mushy and I found no missed pits or stems. Each package has a perfect mix of some soft and some a little firmer but none that appeared to have been harvested too early. They taste naturally sweet and there's no sugar listed in the ingredients. In fact.. the only ingredient listed is Pitted Dates. I know these dates will work out just fine but I wish I had taken the time to query the Amazon website more carefully since I really prefer the chopped dates which I use to bake Date Muffins. Yes, yes I can chop the dates I purchased and will do so as required. I know this is a quality product but I blame myself for not reading the description more thoroughly.

These dates were horrible. Most were hard as wood on the inside and totally inedible. I ended up throwing them all away.
