I recently had the opportunity to test out the TOPDON TC003 Thermal Imaging Camera, and I must say, it has exceeded all my expectations in every possible way. This device is an absolute game-changer, and I can't wait to share my detailed review with you. Design and Build Quality (5/5): First impressions matter, and the TC003 does not disappoint. I started with thermal cams at the shop having purchased the tc001 due to resolution and price. It pretty quickly proved itself to be super useful working on cooling systems, ignition systems and exhausts, however the tc001 being tethered to a phone was a bit inconvenient. The tc003 is standalone with good resolution and some nice features, I decided to swing it, it's not cheap, but, we'll it's not cheap. That is, it's a well built tool, rugged and offering good functionality. The resolution is good and It has temp graphing functionality, which I may have use for in the future. I was able to use it to diagnose a failed bank 1 cat on a range rover without disassembly... Yes, the tc001 could have done this, but, this was much less of a hassle, didn't have to stick the module into the phone and start the app, which doesn't sound bad because it isn't, but just being able to grab it and point it is much more convenient in the workspace. It really is a top notch tool. Maybe I'll update the review with pics, but it's one of those things where the pics won't sell it, the functionality will. It's a great tool, well and it will help with Diagnostics and troubleshooting. I wish I had this years ago.

TC003 is essentially an Android tablet with integrated Thermal Imaging Camera, and by combining these functions together, Topdon has made a tool that is more useful than standalone TICs. It also boots quicker than some TICs, which is a nice bonus considering it has more features. The device feels very solid in the hand, with seams and bezels all being uniform and giving a feeling that it is a high quality product. It has a dust cover to protect the USB-C port. It has a dedicated shutter button to operate the TIC when the appropriate app is open. The tripod mounting hole is a nice feature if you want to hold the TC003 still to monitor temperature over time. The ROM appears to be custom-developed for this device and it has some restrictions as a result - for example, there is no Google Play Store, but this is a tool so you should not really be trying to add lots of extra apps to it. The 32GB internal storage is plenty for storing many images. The ROM/launcher has some handy features like screenshot and screen recording buttons, and screen casting. The touchscreen is responsive and accurate. If you connect the TC003 to Wi-Fi, you can receive ROM updates which resolve problems and enhance functionality. When I first connected my TC003, it received an update. It's nice to see that TOPDON is maintaining the software for the device. Retrieving images is easy: you can connect it with USB, and the device shows up as an MTP device similar to a smartphone. You can also transfer images by Bluetooth, or you can upload them to a website using the Chrome web browser. In addition to the TIC, TC003 also has a normal camera, but the photo quality is just average and has a wide angle. Using this as your primary camera is not the design intent; this is primarily a TIC, but it's nice that it has the normal camera as well for situations where it might be useful. Overall, it feels like a very good quality device, the features are nice, and the thermal imaging seems to work well. I'm very happy with the TC003 and would definitely recommend people give it a try if you're looking for a TIC that isn't as expensive as the competition.

All in all it's decent, I have quite a bit of experience with Thermal Imagers and it's hard to compare sub 1k cameras as they mostly use the same or similar sensor (meaning spending more doesn't necessarily get you a better image). The difference is in lens construction, fusion (visual + thermal), and image processing. This does all of those ok, not great. The Thermal Master P3 does have a better overall image with less features. The good. 1: The display is nice, especially with the 5in. 2: Thermal Image resolution is nice, frame rate is smooth. 3: Comes packaged very well, and overall construction is very good. The bad. 1: USB Charging is awful, you are forced to use the most basic chargers (think USB 2.0). This is a massive design flaw for a portable device in 2026... 2: Basically zero protection for the lenses, a slight recess would have solved this problem. Also, no included case.... 3: For the price it isn't a bad product, but it isn't a great one ethier.

This is a fantastic tool. I have previously owned and used other thermal cameras such as Snap-On EETH300 and EETH310 as well as an Innova unit and some others. This unit blows them out of the water in my opinion. The TC003 is compact, but don't let it's size fool you. It has a very high resolution camera and screen and makes it easy to store and use. Also, it uses a dual camera setup, and overlays the heat picture over the normal picture, so you can easily see the component you are looking for. I have used this unit to diagnose so many things. One was a stuck caliper on a vehicle. Found by measuring the wheel/brake temperatures at each wheel and seeing that one was way hotter than the others. I also used it to find air leaks around a door. And, a missing strip of insulation in the ceiling in my kitchen. I also used this to diagnose a plugged heater core on a car. I'm sure I will find so many more uses for this as time goes on, and I am so glad to have bought it. If you are in the market for a Thermal camera, you will not be disappointed.

The android interface is nice to have, but the sensor is unusable. It has a temperature gradient from the heat of the machine itself that distorts readings on walls by 5-10 degrees C. Calibration introduces other visually disruptive artifacts when performed as directed and doesn't even save when you close the thermal camera app. It doesn't have the clarity to be able to see studs in walls no matter what you do. And yes, I let it auto update before trying it, it's not a firmware update issue. The Thermal Master unit I bought subsequently has none of these issues, the postprocessing is far better, and the clarity is perfectly usable for small variances like studs. Aside from the lack of adjustable focus, it's also more akin to the far more expensive Flukes we use at my day job in overall usefulness.

I’ve been wanting a thermal imaging camera for quite a while since I borrowed one from another mechanic. I spent a lot of time looking before landing on the TC003, and I’m thrilled with my choice thus far. I wanted a “stand alone” unit instead of something that attaches to my phone, my concern being that I get a new phone every year or two and if it wasn’t compatible with my next phone it’s then useless. I was really impressed by the packaging of this thing, it came in a really nice box with fitted foam like a high end smartphone. Included with the thermal imaging camera was a charger cable and wall adapter, a nice padded zipper case, a cleaning cloth and a user manual. The manual was pretty remarkable for me, I buy a LOT of tools and typically the manuals are poorly translated. But this one was clearly written, easy to understand, and free of spelling/grammatical errors (that’s a good sign in my experience). I found the user interface simple to figure out, and even though I bought this for work, I’ve been playing with it every chance I get. It picks up VERY minute differences in heat signatures, and the picture/definition is much better than my coworker’s tool truck unit (that cost triple). I recently built a new shop so I’m excited to use this to find leaks in my DIY insulation work, and i already know it’s going to be useful at work (automotive electrical diagnostic). I poured over the specs on a LOT of these thermal imagers prior to picking one, and I’m really happy with my choice . It seems really well made and the performance is outstanding at this price point.

Wow I'm honestly blown away at what this thing is capable of! The ability to see in the dark is way too cool lol .... I realize light doesn't matter but the ability to see the horses out in the hayfield in the dark around or over half a km away is amazing. It definitely picks up animals from a long ways away. Haven't been able to use it really for any mechanic stuff but I'm sure it will shine in that area....the battery life could be better on the bottom half but I can live with it. If you need an expensive toy to play hide and seek with in the dark your friends will probably hate you haha. It's basically just an android tablet with infrared built it...hook up to wifi and you can browse the internet etc. Using blue tooth to send images and videos over to my phone is super easy and fast. So far I have been amazed by this.
