I read this because I’m really into martial arts books, and I would like to know more about business. Rener Gracie is the grandson of BJJ founder Helio Gracie. Son of UFC founder Rorion Gracie. He has been very successful in business with Gracie University and Quikflip apparel. Most of the martial arts books I read are biographical. Rener Gracie took a different approach. This book described principles we learn in BJJ, then relating them to business or a life situation. I will give two examples of principles described in the book that I found relatable. The pivot principle. Changing your perspective to increase effectiveness. I get this one a lot. Example, in BJJ when you lose to a higher belt. “Well you beat me, but you didn’t submit me.” Or “They submitted me - but not as quick as last time!” It’s actually good to do that and keeps people positive. The velocity principle. Adapting your speed. The more you train BJJ, the more you realize it’s valuable to change speeds. If you can go from slow to fast or vice versa it can really throw your opponent off and create opportunities for you. Think of a pitcher in baseball throwing fastballs, then throwing a change up pitch (slow speed) to throw off the batters rhythm. Another unique thing about this book is a QR code at the start of each chapter that takes you to a short video on the BJJ mats explaining the training principle in real situation. It has quotes from Taylor Swift, Kawhi Leonard, Oprah Winfrey, Sandra Bullock. I would recommend this book and honestly did not expect to enjoy it as much as I did.

The book on the 32 principles of Jiu-Jitsu is an invaluable resource for both beginners and seasoned practitioners of this martial art. It provides a comprehensive and well-organized exploration of the fundamental principles that underpin the art of Jiu-Jitsu.
