Growing Gourmet and Medicinal Mushrooms

A classic and a great source of advice for anyone starting their mycology journey. Instead of going down rabbit holes on Shroomery, having this index to hand can cut down research time because you're less likely to get sidetracked checking out the latest teks. Can be a bit heavy at times, but remember, it's microbiology, not simply gardening. It would be great to be able to harvest and eat all the mushrooms identified in this book... Apart from the cubes and pans, obviously.

This book contains a wealth of useful information about all aspects of mushroom cultivation. Though, from the point of view of a beginner, much of the information relates to large scale cultivation and laboratory techniques, all of it is relevant and adaptable to inform and improve simple home growing techniques. The genuine enthusiasm of the author comes across throughout, and the broad range of fungi knowledge presented will give the reader a good basic understanding of how fungi actually function, both in cultivation and in the wild, which is really important to be able to culture them effectively. The most useful section of all, in my optinion, is the section giving a full analysis of each cultivated species covered by the book. This gives the grower the exact tempertures, humidities, timescales etc. to aim for to get optimal results, which is obviously a great help when you're trying to get things working.

Great book, bad transit I've just started the book but even a brief flick through, knowing of Stamets and basics of cultivation, its clear this is a font of knowledge desirable by any amateur grower A warning to any buyer -1 careful when removing the book of amazon packaging, the adhesive on the sealed edge is that gunky sticky horrible stuff and it sticks to this book like nothing else. It took 10mins even with isopropyl -2 this book isn't beautiful, it feels like a large work book and there's a lot of pictures of it's damage when it arrives "new". Mine was the same, clearly storage or transit has issues, perhaps this explains the discount As nice as beautiful books are, it is the contents that matter so still deserves 5*

This book is a very comprehensive guide. There is a bit of cultural and scientific history. There is a bit of philosophy and visionary ideas. There are a lot of facts, data, tables, techniques etc etc etc Seems to be a complete handbook, and the day I discovery what it lacks on the subject, I will be able to call myself a top expert on the subject. I seriously doubt that that can happen without an incredible amount of time and effort.

One of the best books out there. It’s slightly complicated and very in depth but you well get all the information you need to get a proper understanding.

References in up-dated version don’t seem to match page numbers, however, still a comprehensive reference book for mushroom growers.

This book is so fascinating. Full of interesting information. Definitely worth a read.

I wanted to know what i could grow to eat, this book covers that and nearly every type of mushroom I've ever see for medical production. I'll be using this book for most of my life and won't need another from what i can see.

Un libro publicado hace 20 años pero no por eso deja de ser la biblia de cultivo de hongos con información detallada escrito por uno de los grandes expertos del mundo. Quizá para los principiantes sea una lectura un poco pesada por sus tecnicismos, pero en esta época donde el internet facilita el encontrar información, nada que un poco de investigación no pueda resolver.

But, it actually has information I can use with very basic equipment. Well defined growing conditions for lots of mushrooms. Numbers! Glorious numbers.

This bible, written by someone who is an authority on mushrooms, is VERY comprehensive. You won't need another guide on how to grow mushrooms. I recommend this book to anyone from 'just curious' through to "I want to be the mushroom Queen"

The book arrived damaged, 1/4 of the pages are wet with mold!!! How can I attach images?

Eine absolute Kaufempfehlung, wenn man sich mit der Pilzzucht beschäftigen möchte. Hier wird Wissen auf hohem Niveau vermittelt von der Biologie der Pilze über die biologischen Arbeitsweise bis hin zu den einzelnen Sorten an züchtbaren Speisepilzen und deren Vorlieben für Substrat und Temperatur. Und es sind wirklich viele Sorten, die man einfach 1:1 nachmachen kann. Englisch sollte man verstehen, aber wenn man das tut, wird man auch viel Freude an der Schreibweise haben.
